  • Save Grand Canal Dock Liveaboard Community
The Grand Canal Dock residential houseboat community faces a raise in mooring fees of 2000% and is at immediate risk of displacement by Waterways Ireland. Single people, families, young people and pensioners make up this vibrant houseboat community which has been part of Grand Canal Dock, Pearse Street and Ringsend for over a decade. The increase in fees outlined in Waterways Ireland’s proposed bye-laws is unjustified, unaffordable and puts all households at immediate risk of displacement. We are asking you, as Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Electoral Reform, not to sign off on the proposed canal bye-laws on the 26th February. The raise in fees for this liveaboard community can only be seen as the gentrification of Grand Canal Dock Marina. Waterways Ireland is a state body and service provider funded by the taxpayer. Their actions are comparable to a private developer not a custodian of the Irish Waterways.   The heritage and cultural legacy of the waterways lives on in the boating community. This raise in fees in Grand Canal Dock will set a precedence for unreasonable and unjustified fees for boaters across the country and will empty our rivers and canals, destroying this legacy and ultimately displacing communities. Minister Noonan, we are calling on you to reject this revision of the bye-laws until the rights of boating communities are protected, families are not displaced and a fair fees structure is in place.   Yours sincerely,

  • Call on Irish Government to back South Africa case against Israel in ICJ
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) based in The Hague will hold its first hearing in South Africa’s genocide case against Israel on Thursday, with several countries welcoming the move amid a global chorus for a ceasefire in Gaza.South Africa filed the lawsuit end of December, accusing Israel of genocide in its war on Gaza and seeking a halt to the brutal military assault that has killed more than 23,000 Palestinians, nearly 10,000 of them children. The 84-page filing by South Africa says Israel violated the 1948 Genocide Convention, drawn up in the aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust.(Al-Jazeer)The Irish government must join South Africa in this case. Our country was instrumental in the worldwide condemnation of Apartheid in Sputy Africa. We also joined the case last year against Russia at the ICJ. We must stand firm and make our collective heard that what Israel is doing amounts to Genocide; it cannot and will not be condoned.

  • Save Magherally, stop the quarry expansion.
Homes, heritage and health is at risk in Magherally and the surrounding Banbridge area. If the quarry is allowed to expand local wildlife’s habitat will be destroyed and local residents will have their right to peaceful enjoyment of their homes striped from them. Once the beautiful countryside in Magherally is gone, we can never get it back. Respiratory problems could worsen, silica dust is carcinogenic and could lead to increased health concerns. Noise and dust pollution will increase. Badgers, bats, foxes, yellowhammers and Irish hares will be out at risk. No amount of economical gain is worth putting lives, wildlife and heritage at risk.
