Please help our 40-YEAR campaign to get a short footpath laid between two estates Grangewood and Rich Hill Woods on a very dangerous road, which has only become busier with trucks and fast moving traffic. Local resident JJ Ryan has been campaigning to get a footpath built for years. “This is an extremely dangerous stretch of road. There’s no lighting and no footpath between the two estates. “Pedestrians, the elderly, and schoolchildren getting on and off the local bus or cycling to school have to scramble up a very steep bank to get out of the way of traffic.” Mr Ryan, whose son was struck by the wing mirror of a passing car last year and suffered a broken arm, said that “there have been scores of near misses and accidents involving cars and pedestrians. It’s only a matter of time before someone is killed. Pedestrian access to the national school and general road speed limit. Currently children and parents are forced to park.on footpath and step out onto a live and busy road where there is no speed limit measures.

Parents and Guardians are extremely concerned about the safety on the R405 and that risks that 853 (457 Gaelscoil Uí Fhiaich and 396 Maynooth Educate Together National School) shool going children and their parents face on a daily basis.

Less trees, more traffic congestion outside and more pedestrian traffic inside will mean Patrician Villas will become a less safe, less green, more polluted, noisier and unhealthier place to live. The image of Patrician Villas as a 'residential' area and its 'sense of community' will be severely compromised and the quality of life of its residents will be drastically altered. The NTA proposals are outlined below. (1) One main proposal is the relocation of the Stillorgan Park Road bus stop approximately 120m (2 min walk) from its current location. To facilitate this, the following additional modifications are proposed: • Construction of an ‘Island-style’ bus stop requiring land take, and the removal of trees, • Construction of a Toucan crossing in front of the relocated bus stop; i.e. the building of an additional pedestrian crossing ‘on’ the dual carriageway in the same area as the existing pedestrian crossing ‘under’ the dual carriageway. • Creating a pedestrian access point by removing part of the wall between Patrician Villas recreational space and the N11, and the removal of trees. • Construction of a concrete staircase and winding ramp requiring the sacrifice of a recreational space, and the removal of trees. (2) Another proposal is the construction of a 1.8m footpath the length of the border between Patrician Villas and the N11 dual carriageway. To facilitate this, 2 other modifications are proposed - • Extension of the underpass further into the neighbourhood for a footpath above, • Land take of at least 2m the length of Patrician Villas and the removal of trees. The proposed infrastructure changes are "minor" in terms of impact - i.e. moving a bus stop only 120 meters (a 2 mins walk) and creating a footpath along an area that has no entrances and that will abruptly come to an end at the junction. Yet the sacrifices Patrician Villas and Grove are expected to make and the danger and affective health implications to residents are "major". Real change happens when everyday people like you and I come together and stand up for what we believe in. Together we can reach lots of people and help create change around this important issue. Newbridge is the 2nd largest population center in the county, and it does not even have a direct public bus service from Newbridge to Maynooth University. It’s a big let down to students, making it hard for them to attend classes or get back home. There are private services, and indirect services, but they are expensive and often takes long time with delays, causing students to miss their classes. The importance of this campaign is to make it easier for students to access their education, so that they won’t have to pay a fortune in private services, or have to wake up at really early hours in the morning for indirect services

To help people get around. Kids getting to school, people who don't drive are less strained to get in and out of town. As well as cutting down on emissions as less people would drive. It would help people save money and hopefully create a better social culture of there is easy access to the town and parks.

Waterford Airport is going to waste and businesses in the City and surrounding areas aren't able to sustain themselves as well as they could as the tourists won't come here, or are relying on poor public transport to get them here

The children of Ballyhass NS and the parish of Castlemagner deserve a bus and shouldn't be subjected to the stress and worry of a lottery year on year. This affects anyone that is outside the Department of Education's radius of 3 miles from the school. This is our fight this year but it might be yours in the future.

The junction is a dangerous intersection, from either side of Tay Road it is very difficult to see both ways, because the intersecting road is straight, cars will go at full speed and arrive at the junction with very short notice as one side there is a hill, which blocks visibility and the other a steep turn. A lot of people in Cobh will avoid this junction altogether because it is too dangerous. Unsurprisingly, accidents have occured here with even a fatality a few years back. Nothing effective has been done to make this junction a safe one.

As the US dept of Energy points out......"Tires can make a big difference in the number of miles a driver gets to a tank of gas. In fact, 20% to 30% of a vehicle’s fuel consumption and 24% of road vehicle CO2 emissions are tire-related. Tires affect vehicle fuel efficiency primarily through rolling resistance....... "Under inflation also increases the rate of wear on tires and are estimated to cause as many as 10 to 25 percent of blowouts......... "A tire that is 20 percent underinflated can increase a vehicle’s fuel consumption by 10 percent. " "because it provides more resistance, causing your car to expend more effort to get going." https://www.energy.gov/energysaver/tires-and-fuel-economy People would be far more inclined to have their tyres checked if it was free and if someone were to do it for them. This was once normal procedure in garages across the country. This could see a huge drop in transport emissions which in the past year saw a 6% rise. We can cut emissions very easily if the will is there. Tyres need to be checked at least once a month for optimum performance. Every sector needs to strive for optimum performance in reducing emissions. Transport can easily reduce theirs with this small and effective action. It is time fossil fuel merchants were asked to do their bit to reduce emissions.

Other areas like Castleknock Have a steel bus shelter at every bus stop and a €5,500 belly bin. Residents in Inchicore and Kilmainham would like their bus stops upgraded to the same standard as other areas; with a shelter, RTPI and a bin.

The west of Ireland has played second fiddle to major infrastructure projects for years, we are the forgotten Region, it’s time to stand up and be counted.
