Larkhill Legends Youth Club and St. Carlo Acutis Boxing Club are two fantastic community groups catering to more than 100 children, many of whom have additional needs. Being members of these clubs has enabled local children to improve their physical health, mental health and social skills. Both clubs run in the heart of Whitehall. They also organise a summer project which brings the children on overnight trips around Ireland. Local clubs such as these benefit not only the children and their families, but the local community as a whole. Unfortunately, the lack of a suitable community space in our area has been a core issue affecting our local youth clubs and community groups. Without a proper community facility, existing clubs and groups face major challenges in maintaining and expanding their services, and it is much more difficult for new clubs to be established in the area. It can be incredily disheartening for the community to see vacant sites and derelict buildings lying idle for years while sports and community groups, who bring so much positivity and hope to the area, have to continue trying to sustain themselves without suitable facilities. In May, the ESB announced that would be raising electricity prices by 8%, which amounts to about €138 extra a year. Data Centres, which consume 22% of the national electric output, drive up electricity prices as they put strain on already over-taxed infrastructure.  They also contribute to the worsening climate crisis as they incentivise the production of ever-increasing amounts of electricity, which requires the burning of more and more fossil fuels. All the while, they guzzle thousands of gallons of clean water daily, just to keep their servers cool.    The intended Data Centre expansion in Little Island is a net negative for the local area. It would provide next to no employment, while contributing to the rising utility prices and threatening the enviroment, particulalrly the local bat and badger populations.  It needs to be stopped. 

The speed limit change from 100 km/h to 80 km/h on the N25 at Glenmore is dangerously abrupt, with poor signage and a camera placed right after the signs. Many responsible drivers are being heavily fined while they are still safely slowing down. This is not about road safety — it feels like a revenue trap. Over 30,000 fines in the first year prove the system is unfair. We need better advance warning signs, a longer transition zone, and fairer enforcement so that honest drivers are not penalised for a badly designed speed limit change.

Why is this important? Families with kids in school who can be there to collect their children should be facilitated. The amount of stress created for children waiting for parents who are desperately looking for parking spaces is completely avoidable. These kinds of actions create unnecessary stress and anger.  Common sense has to prevail. Stand down double yellow fines at drop off and pick up at Malahide Primary Schools.
