• Put limits on the purchase of land by the mega wealthy
It doesn’t have to be this way. There are alternatives. In France they have a system called SAFER which: *Intervenes in land sales in the public interest where there is land speculation by non farmers and billionaire investors. *Ensures viable land holdings, *Maintains rural communities and the viability of   existing farms, *Controls prices so land is affordable. *Addresses sustainable land use policy. https://www.landcommission.gov.scot/downloads/6554aa4252c5a_Review%20of%20France%C3%94%C3%87%C3%96s%20SAFER%20Land%20Market%20Interventions.pdf The concept of a Land Observatory has been approved at EU level.  A Land Observatory would collect data on land purchase and use and act as a watchdog to oversee land-related issues and foster collaboration to protect our most precious physical resource: our land.  Our politicians are avoiding this issue.  They have their heads in the sand. We demand that they address the problem now to ensure viable landholdings for farming families. The Irish Land Observatory Stakeholders Group has got together to raise awareness of this issue and demand change.  They have attended meetings in Brussels with relevant EU policy makers and are seeking a pilot Land Observatory in Ireland.  They will use this petition to apply pressure on elected representatives to lobby for this pilot project.

  • Reform Irish Laws on Pet Theft
I've been campaigning for nearly 4 years. There is a silent epidemic happening here in Ireland that started during the pandemic in 2020 when more people started bringing dogs into their homes. Companion animals, dogs in particular, are still being stolen in large quantities and daily.  They are being stolen to order or if the dog happens to be a breed in high demand.  Currently the theft of a pet is treated by the law, the very same as stealing a mobile phone. Pet theft needs its own classification as a crime within the law.  The theft of a pet can have a devastating effect on its owners and their family. This should be reflected in the sanction given out for such a theft. Where the theft is of therapy or support dog there should be an even greater sanction. Please help me by signing today.

  • Introduce Baby Loss Certificates in Northern Ireland
A baby that dies after 24 weeks is officially recorded as a stillbirth, however, there is no such formal recognition for babies lost earlier. Since February, bereaved parents in England who lose a baby before 24 weeks can now receive a certificate in recognition of their loss. Wales and Scotland have similar schemes in place. The same must be made available for people in Northern Ireland.

  • Dublin Airport, treat cancer survivors with dignity
Breast cancer survivor Réaltán Ní Leannáin has said she was forced to remove her breast prosthesis in public view when going through security at Dublin Airport. This is a horrific violation of her dignity and it must never be allowed to happen ever again. We demand that Dublin Airport Authority put clear policies in place so cancer survivors know exactly what to expect when going through airport security. These policies should be available on the Dublin Airport website and should be based on dignity and respect for anyone who has undergone cancer treatment.

  • Stop Masters' Fee Increase
Trinity College Dublin is looking to increase masters’ fees for the 2025/2026 academic year. This is opposed by students, as it threatens to make education further inaccessible. Not only are we treated like cash cows, but we lack crucial student services - and this proposed increase is just further insult to injury. In order to pressure Trinity to abandon, or reduce as much as possible its plans, we are employing multiple avenues, such as lobbying and reputational targeting, which threatens College's finances. With this petition, we are showing student opposition to the proposals. If these proposals go ahead, it will make education further a luxury product, rather than a public good for all. These courses already cost anywhere between €7,000 to €36,000 per year and represent a financial burden for students, and are way above the maximum SUSI tuition fee grant. Education is a right and not a luxury and everyone should be able to avail of it. This proposal will further serve to make education elitist and classist and therefore should be resisted!

  • Rename London to Derrylondon
In order to due homage to the heritage of the Celtic Isles, and to acknowledge the immense history of Irish people who were (albeit due to forced migration and British invasion) a part of constructing infrastructure in England, we petition that the city of London be formally renamed to Derrylondon. Chun ómós a thabhairt d’oireacht na nOilleáin Ceilteacha, agus chun stair na nÉireanach a rinneadh (fiú más de bharr imirce brúite orthu ag fórsaí Sasana a rinneadh) chuid mhór de thóigeáil infreastruchtúr Sasana, éilímid do dtugfar an t-ainm “Doirelondain” ar chathair Londain.

  • Enact the Occupied Territories Bill
At this stage in the genocide it is unbelievable that Ireland has a powerful bill, that could help the people of Palestine, waiting in the wings to be enacted since 2018. It took immense effort from many political, academic and legal minds to get the bill to its present position in the legislative process. There is no legal excuse for stalling it any longer. To quote Sen. Frances Black “... it’s not a legal issue, it’s a question of political will. The weight of legal advice makes it clear that we can pursue this if we’re willing to be brave about it – we need to stand up and show leadership”. (Irish times, 13 Jun 2020.) Something has to begin the process of turning the tide on the genocide in Palestine, especially Gaza. The OTB has been identified by multiple organisations nationally and internationally as the single most important and effective action that Ireland as a nation can take, at this time in October 2024.  Enacting the OTB can without doubt have a ripple effect throughout the world. Let's throw the pebble in the ocean of support for Palestine and see it do the work it was always intended to achieve.

  • We demand our water referendum now
For over seven years the Irish Government has refused to hold a referendum on the public ownership of our water. The only logical explanation for their refusal is the unspoken intention to privatise our water system. In May 2016 legislation was tabled and unanimously passed in the Dáil in support of a water referendum, but since then Fine Gael, Fianna Fail and the Green Party have prevented this important referendum from progressing. Enough is enough. Name the date and give us our referendum now! Water has become one of the most valuable and profitable commodities on the planet. Privatisation has been a disaster in almost every country that outsourced their water supply to profit making entities. Costs have gone up, services has declined. Dividends are paid to owners, taxpayers bail out depleted infrastructure. Every day we don’t have our water referendum, we move closer and closer towards the full privatisation of our water system.  We stood together from 2014 – 2016 to stop water charges: now we need to stand together to prevent privatisation.
