Full excavation of Bessborough Mother & Baby home Cork.

According to the commission’s final report, which was published earlier this month, it was “highly likely” that burials did take place in the grounds of Bessborough, which opened as a mother and baby home in 1922. But the commission said that the only way it could be established that infant burials definitely took place in the once 200-acre estate was by an excavation of the entire property, including in areas that have since been built upon. The survivor community are expecting their future plans for the site to stop and for such to happen!

Why is this important?

The commission of investigation into Mother and Baby homes had said it is likely that infant burials took place at Bessborough in Cork even though they stated no evidence has been found of systematic burial.

However Survivors say the burial site is on the grounds as that’s where they were told their children were put.

The commission says the is no evidence of burials, however survivors have also publicly highlighted in the media over the years in regards to an a old map to the ground’s of bessborough in which it clearly states on it “Children’s burial ground” however regardless of this strong piece of ignored evidence, instead they wish to try further build over the land.

Due to such we want immediate excavation of the entire property, including the areas that have since been built upon, the commission stated that is the only way it could be established if infant burials definitely took place in the once 200-acre estate. We please ask everyone to support this petition so we can see the right thing be finally done , thank you.
