  • Patientrevolution.ie - Campaign for the delivery of a one tier health system: Sláintecare
Taoiseach, A chara, Minister Donnelly, A chara, We ask you to reinstate an independent Board to oversee the delivery of Sláintecare and allow it to drive the program of Sláintecare in its original vision and spirit as the all party deliverable it is. We ask you as Taoiseach & Minister for health of this country, to stand up to the resistance to change within Government Departments and the HSE. We ask you to prioritise and put in place independent oversight of senior management in both the HSE and Department of Health. We ask you to urgently and proactively enable the Sláintecare board, the HSE & the Department of Health to adequately resource hospitals with consultants and communities with GPs and GPNs. Resolve the pay issue for consultants and engage with GPs & Dentists to develop a relevant contract and support structure that will save primary care and enable continuity of care to patients. We ask you to acknowledge that there is a crisis, healthcare workers are burnt out, they are leaving the country and their profession in alarming numbers. We are waiting unable to access the care we need. We are all patients, we are out of patience, we revolt. We ask you to act.

  • Safe Staffing levels for Healthcare Workers in Private Nursing Homes Ireland
Healthcare workers are being paid a poor salary by the private sectors, in particular our Healthcare Assistants are suffering the most. In addition to this in private nursing homes the staffing levels are extremely low. This results in a huge staff turnover causing stress and anxiety for the staff. These healthcare workers are real people with families. Their work is invaluable to the private sector and the people they provide care to, their families and our communities, without healthcare workers there would be no healthcare system. Even after almost two years of a pandemic and alot of hard work, caring for our countrys most vulnerable, the sacrifices made by healthcare staff and still our healthcare assistants did not receive a pay rise. The salary for healthcare assistants in the private sector is a very poor 10.50 per hour, there is no pension and no sick pay, this has to change. In addition to all of this there is also staff shortages due to the high staff turnover and staff are burnt out. The healthcare assistants still have not received a pay rise therefore their work through a pandemic has not even been recognised. Alot of staff have left the private sector because of this. New inexperienced staff are then recruited and hired for the already burnt out existing staff to retrain all over again only for the same thing to happen. Its shocking and makes no sense!! The price of living in this country has way surpassed the working wage for far too long and while our healthcare staff are treated like modern day slaves the government hide behind walls and make excuses. Our government are fully aware of what is happening in the private sector and especially in private nursing homes. It's so sad to watch amazing, experienced, caring, exceptional staff who have become so close to our aging population be forced to leave the private sector for a better wage and working conditions elsewhere. I am a healthcare worker and this is a challenge everyday. We desperately need Reform.

  • Support E-learning for kids during a pandemic
OK, let's make this straight! Nobody, I mean nobody wants children return to school as much as their parents, trust me!!! In my opinion it is definitely better for their mental health and social abilities when they are in school! Online learning is just no comparison to in person learning, without a doubt! But, yes, there's always a but! Unfortunately, we're in a pandemic! Probably the worst one in the past 100years! It is not easy to be the decision maker in any country at this very moment, we get that! You want to open the schools by the end of the month, for the sick of our economy and better education of the children, fair enough. But, here's that but again. How about kids with underlined health problems? How about parents with health issues? How about all the teachers? How about kids living in 3 generation household? How about the parents who are just simply do not want put their children and themselves at risks during a world pandemic??? There's no one solution for all, and they say you can't keep everyone happy! True, and fair. The only thing is, there is a way! And you can keep almost everyone happy! Here it is! Open schools, so whoever want to and happy to send their children back to school, do so. At the meantime, let the teachers who has underlined conditions to teach online, so all students can keep up with their education without having to put themself or their love ones at risks! Government should also set up support programs on TV like the Teaching hub during the lockdown. So everyone will have a choice! So people do not have to choose between the education of their children or taking a chance to get infected by this deadly virus! If we know we're in this for a long time, why can't we do this? There is no better time for the government to do this because it is the start of a school year! All classes are starting from the very beginning! At the end of the day, we all know, at some stage, some county, in some school, some children and teachers will get it, from somewhere. Yes, children may get it milder than adults, but the younger patient end up in the ICU rates is 1 out of 3, it is as high as adults! Also, they may get it mild, they still need someone to look after them when they are sick, as contagious as Covid is, who is going to look after the parents when we get it from our children??? It is a very small country and there is no such thing is outbreak in one school, and our health system simply can not afford any school outbreaks! Open the school the right way, give people choice, give people a chance to get through this hard time and give Ireland a safer autumn/winter!!! Protect our children, protect each other so we can protect our Ireland! If you agree, please share! Stay safe everyone! Love ❤️

  • Support Youth Demands for Climate Justice
These demands were written by over 30+ young people all across the island of Ireland on 5 main themes - Polluters, Just Transition, Education, Biodiversity and Youth Engagement. These demands have been written for the support of our political representatives to take into their work. These demands are realistic, achievable and necessary. They are detailed below. Biodiversity To our representatives, Article 1 - Legally commit to protecting and managing at least 30% of terrestrial and marine areas by 2030, while having proof of action. Proof of action defined by evidence of how they are protecting these areas and the steps they are following. Potential means to achieve these goals are Designating bigger spaces for wildlife to promote biodiversity that is connected through wildlife corridors Reintegrate native species into areas around Ireland Conserve biodiversity that already exists and police protected areas Increasing the amount of connectivity in Natura 2000 sites Increase in marine protected areas and policing Article 2 - The government must present more SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timed) goals with effective policies that are clear, direct, adequately funded, law enforceable and linked across all departments on biodiversity conservation objectives and are managed appropriately. The government must also take accountability for failing to achieve the goals that they have previously agreed to (COP10 Japan targets etc etc) Article 3 - Educate and incentivise farmers and fishers to use more sustainable practices and promote biodiversity on their land and through their fishing methods. These methods may include the following Providing incentives to plant more flora/ native plants on land Encourage them to not use pesticides, instead promoting biodiversity in their area that acts as natural pesticides. Rewilding parts of the land to what originally was there Increased transparency in bycatch and net usage. Tax breaks or direct payments for those who follow these guidelines. Add strict quotas to livestock numbers and fishing numbers Education To our representatives, Article 1 - Incorporate the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the primary and secondary school curriculum. Schools participation should be audited with recognition provided for schools showing adequate understanding and application of the goals. Incorporate within all existing subjects throughout primary and secondary levels of education Inclusive of teacher training which is audited to ensure successful implementation. Article 3 - Community outreach projects funded by the government and delivered through schools. This will enable students to educate their peers and their wider community to promote tangible climate action. Just Transition DISCLAIMER: For all of these demands, the local communities should be consulted to work with them as society makes these vital changes. To our representatives, Article 1 - Ensure a just transition for all Potential means to achieve this goal are; Ensure that when polluting industries/factories shut/retire workers are offered retraining opportunities for high quality jobs in clean sectors and adequate support schemes for workers in secondary industries in the affected region(s). Create local forums that include councillors, union reps, and community leaders to discuss the future of the region(s) that have lost revenue/capital over the loss of a polluting industry. Fund and empower farmers, fishermen and other workers on how to change the way they work to better include sustainable practices. Polluters DISCLAIMER: For all of these demands, the local communities should be consulted to work with them as society makes these vital changes. To our representatives, Article 1 - Phase out fossil fuels Potential means to achieve this goal are End subsidies for fossil fuels and fossil fuel projects and provide more subsidies for clean energy Protect the ban on fracking licences and oil and gas explorations Make environmental laws stricter Criminalise ecocide Actively work toward reducing our fast fashion consumption as an Island. Taxes and bans on fashion corporations who aren’t doing their bit to ethically source materials and operate in an environmentally friendly way. Article 2 - Greener transport for all Potential means to achieve this goal are Public transport powered by green energy for rural areas. Article 3 - Sustainable & small scale agriculture Potential means to achieve this goal are Drastically reduce our CO2/GHG output by having less cows, but raising the price of meat so farmers make the same profit. More of a focus on plant based food, like growing crops without pesticides.
