To: NUI Graduates.

NUI Graduates. Are you happy that Ronan Mullen is representing you in the Seanad?

First of all, I wish to apologise for showing the distasteful comment made and for any distress that may be caused to the family and friends of Savita Halappanavar.

THE POINT OF THIS PETITION. - TOXIC MASCULINITY - IRISH STYLE

IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY THAT SENATOR MULLEN IS THE PUBLIC FACE IN THE SEANAD AND HIS COMMENTS ARE ALSO REPRESENTING NUI GRADUATES - AND THAT MEANS YOU.
Then please check the following:

1. Check that you are eligible to vote in the upcoming Seanad election at this link:
http://www.nui.ie/elections/seanad-register.asp

Even if you were previously registered, please check that your name is still on the register and that you have not been deleted from it.

2. If your name is not on the register then please register to add it.
There are Irish and English language versions of the registration form:

http://www.nui.ie/elections/docs/gradUpdateIR.pdf (Gaeilge)

http://www.nui.ie/elections/docs/GradUpdateENG.pdf (Bearla)

Registration must be completed by: 26 February 2019

3. Ask your buddies from NUI to register.

4. Cast your vote for a candidate who is NOT Ronan Mullen

5. Continue as many preferences as you can for other candidates - excluding Ronan Mullen.

As yet the full list of candidates is not decided but at least three candidates have to poll higher numbers and get more transfers than Ronan Mullen to be sure he loses his seat.

Signing the petition would just be an indicator of how many people are unhappy with the performance and attitude of Senator Mullen.

We have this chance to remove him or we have him for a further 5 years in the Seanad.

Why is this important?

During his time in the Seanad and especially during the repeal the 8th campaign, Ronan Mullen has uttered some of the most reprehensible and offensive comments about pregnant women and especially those facing crisis pregnancies and none of which he has felt the need to apologise for.

He also voted against the removal of blasphemy as an offence from the Constitution.

Ireland is a modern republic and despite it being the 21st Century, attitudes of subservience to the church belong in the past and should have no place among elected representatives.

They are elected to serve the people - not a particular religion.

As the Seanad elections are now due I feel this will be the best chance of unseating him.

However, to be absolutely sure I would like people to get behind one candidate so as not to split the vote and to that end I am urging support for Ber Grogan (independent) who has declared her intention to put herself forward.
