Kill your speed, not our kids & pets

Pets and children are being hit by speeding cars in Dublin 8. This is a photo of 18 month old Jess, a beloved family pet who is recovering from a hit and run in Dublin 8, on Sunday 23rd October.

The other photos show 2 cars that crashed on SCR/Brookfield Rd junction at 7am on Thursday 27th October.

Roads in Dublin 8,10 and 12 are not safe.

DCC need to put in speed bumps, get rid of wide, curved bends, fill in slip roads, & put in traffic filters so kids & pets stop getting hit by speeding cars.

The current ‘active travel’ plan by Dublin City Council does not go far enough for anti speeding or pets/kids road safety in the following areas - Drimnagh, Crumlin, Kilmainham, Inchicore, Islandbridge, Ballyfermot, Dolphins Barn and The Liberties.

The areas that ARE getting lots of funding are Dublin 2, Clontarf & Dublin 4. Not enough is being planned for Dublin 8, 10 and 12 to reduce speeding and make safety better at big junctions like Dolphins Barn, that school children, pets and cyclists have to cross.

Why is this important?

Pets, kids and cyclists are being frightened and hit, sometimes killed by speeding cars in Dublin 8, 10 & 12. Dublin City council is spending money making areas like Clontarf, Dublin 2 and Dublin 4 much safer with ‘the active travel plan’. The same amount of money & effort needs to be put into making Dublin 8, 10, 12 safe for pets, cyclists and kids.

For example safe walking & cycling NETWORKS between primary schools, secondary schools and sports clubs. The following junctions have regular crashes, no cycle path marking, slip roads, no yellow box and very wide roads to cross for children going to school or sports clubs.

Eg Dolphins Barn junction, Suir Road junction, Sally’s Bridge Junction, Brookfield Rd/SCR/St James Hospital junction.

Many of the junctions in Dublin 8,10 and 12 have motorway style slip roads and curved bends that ENCOURAGE car speed at junctions. A good example of how a dangerous junction can be improved is Bridge Street junction on the quays which had a slip road filled in.

Residents of D8, D10, D12 demand exactly the same amount of money spent on NEW road safety actions in ‘the active travel plan’ as Clontarf, D2 and D4 are getting, to stop their pets, kids and cyclists being frightened, injured or killed by speeding cars.

The raw data on active travel allocations from the NTA is here. Please note that many of the entries for €50k are ‘reports’ by consultants, not practical traffic measures:
