  • Justice for Anne: Horses Are Not Vehicles — Remove Them from Urban Roads
We are calling for immediate action to prevent further suffering and deaths of horses on Irish roads. Following the tragic death of Anne, a pregnant horse who collapsed from exhaustion on a busy Dublin road, news reports stated that she was kicked and forced to try to stand after collapsing, before being abandoned on the roadside. Despite emergency veterinary care, Anne and her unborn foal later died. We are asking for the following actions: • Remove horses from public roads and urban streets, particularly high-traffic areas • Prohibit the use of horses on busy roads where vehicles operate, due to the risk to animal welfare and public safety • Introduce clear, enforceable regulations governing the keeping and use of horses in urban environments • Strengthen enforcement of existing animal welfare laws, with meaningful penalties for abuse, neglect, or overworking of horses • Ensure mandatory identification, licensing, and regular welfare checks for horses kept within or brought into urban areas • Fully investigate and hold accountable those responsible for Anne’s suffering and death Horses are sentient animals, not vehicles. Urban roads are dangerous environments that expose horses to exhaustion, injury, fear, and fatal harm. No animal should be subjected to violence or left to suffer on a public road. Immediate action is required to ensure this never happens again.

  • Fast-tracking of a Bypass of Kilrane Village
We call upon the Irish Government to fast-track a bypass of Kilrane Village in light of the increased traffic on the N25 going through the village to access Rosslare Europort since the implementation of Brexit in January 2021. We must stress that as a community that we are delighted to see Rosslare Europort thriving and welcome the added wealth and prosperity that this will bring to the whole area, but life in Kilrane Village should not be adversely affected by this. We welcome the announcement in December 2020 of a new access road to Rosslare Europort. We request that Kilrane be included as part of this new access road development and for the new access road to link north of Kilrane Village as a matter of urgency. We request this in light of the fact that Kilrane National School sits on the N25 and this increase in HGV traffic passing the school poses a great risk to the children of the school and area. We greatly welcome the progressive decision taken by Wexford County Council on the 1st of December 2020 regarding the new access road to Rosslare Port, a decision rectifying many issues around Rosslare Harbour regarding the transportation of freight in the area. We feel strongly as residents of Kilrane Village, that we should be afforded the same solutions to the same problems as were afforded to Rosslare Harbour. We urge the Irish Government to begin the process of urgently rectifying these issues and to begin discussions with all the relevant stakeholders to bring these issues to a safe and satisfactory conclusion for all, especially for the children of this area. We believe that our proposed solutions fit in with the strategic aims for Kilrane and Rosslare Harbour.

  • Don't evict us Roderic O'Gorman
3 families with young children as young as 6 months have been told to leave our home in the Dominick Street Direct Provision Accommodation, Galway City by August 15th. We have nowhere to go and we are terrified for our families and our futures. Our children are traumatised enough and being moved out is going to cause extreme stress and more trauma.

  • Legal Support for possession proceedings on homes
There are currently thousands of citizens battling to save their family home in Irish Courts, not represented by any legal team. These individuals “are willing to pay” the mortgage but cannot obtain a fair and reasonable restructure with the banks or private equity firms (aka vultures) that now own their mortgage. Under the current legal system, families and individuals are not entitled to Legal Aid or advice under the Act (Civil Legal Aid Act, 1995 ) “…in principle, legal aid and legal advice are available for all civil matters, other than those which are specifically excluded by law. Those excluded by law include: disputes concerning rights and interests in or over land”, i.e., the family home. In many cases, the mortgages were originally mis-sold with structures such as (1) Interest only with No Repayment Plan, (2) Repayments Past Retirement Age or (3) Self-Certified Income. All of these are potential breaches by the lender of the Consumer Protection Code 2006, the 2001 Code of Practice for Credit Institutions and the regulator’s direct guidance on mortgage lending. Due to current Irish legislation, these individuals are defending themselves as lay litigants as they have no alternative. There is no legal aid for citizens trying to save their homes. They are often faced with a full legal team representing the vulture who purchased their debt at a discount. This situation must be construed as unfair in terms of access to justice and is out of sync with the majority of European countries. To compound matters, the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman, created to mediate between well-resourced financial service companies and the consumers, is refusing to use their discretion (granted by an Amendment to the FSPO Act in 2017) to investigate misconduct by the banks when originating the mortgage. The Ombudsman rejected nearly a third of consumer complaints lodged in 2020; refusing to investigate nearly 2,000 complaints. If you believe that Ireland should come in line with European norms in the area of financial justice, please sign this petition.

  • Stop Tesco Ireland Picking on Dot.Com Pickers and Drivers
As a Tesco Ireland customer, I am demanding that Tesco Ireland reverses its decision to impose new work schedules on hundreds of Dot.Com workers - pickers and drivers - who carry out online shopping for customers. The changes being imposed on – already low paid – workers will result in them losing thousands of Euros in pay at the height of a cost of living crises. In addition, the new work schedules will create major problems for those with family/caring roles, potentially forcing many to either give up their jobs or be at a loss of income. As a customer, I am demanding that Tesco Ireland ensures that the work schedules for the existing Dot.Com workers – and their earning levels – are maintained.
