  • Petition For Ballyfermot Schools Amalgamation : Our KIDS Deserve Better
PETITION TO THE MINISTER FOR EDUCATION, NORMA FOLEY We the undersigned, are extremely concerned about the proposed conditions for the amalgamation of three secondary schools in Ballyfermot, namely St. John's College, Caritas College and St Dominic’s College. While we welcome the approval of the amalgamation and the development of a new school to provide ‘State of the Art’ resources, facilities and a broad curriculum to establish a professional learning community to fulfil the educational needs and aspirations for the young people of Ballyfermot. We wish to emphasise to the Minister that we do not approve of this development going ahead at the moment, without the inclusion of a Canteen, PE Hall/Gym, Parents Facilities, Counselling/Family Therapy services, SCP/HSCL facilities, Staff facilities/Car parking. The young people of Ballyfermot deserve the best that can be provided. To progress a new developing educational facility that excludes the most fundamental requirements of the care of body as well as mind, is irresponsible. Ballyfermot has one of the country's lowest percentages of progression to third level for second level students. Promises have been made to the community of a "State of the Art" educational complex for our young people. To fulfil the educational needs and aspirations of our youth requires the opportunity for all our young people to be fully trained and equipped to care for their minds and bodies also. A new school needs facilities for proper care, diet and exercise. We object in the strongest possible terms to the exclusion of a PE Hall, Canteen and on site care facilities for staff, students and parents from the proposed new facilities at the site for the new school at St. John's College on Le Fanu Road. Unfortunately, the Minister for Education is proposing that such facilities may be provided at some stage in the future but there are no guarantees given and it does not make sense to progress a new secondary school without these fundamental and crucial facilities. We believe the young people of Ballyfermot not only deserve better but they deserve the best. Dublin 10 is an area of socio-economic deprivation and building a new school without caring for the physical and mental health and well-being of the students only serves to cement the disadvantage that our children face on a daily basis. WE want to ensure that a DEIS school with a 21st Century curricula and facilities which would encourage our young people to engage and have a positive experience in a DEIS School and equip them with the skills for a rapidly changing employment landscape. Unfortunately, it seems that these plans are not being realised?? We are calling on the Minister to reverse the decision to exclude these much-needed facilities ie Sports facilities, Canteen, Parents Facilities, Counselling/Family Therapy services, School Completion/Home School Community Liaison spaces, Staff facilities/Car parking Signed:

  • Make public transport reliable and efficient!
Us citizens of Galway demand punctuality of both Citydirect and bus Èireann buses. We demand reliability of showing up in the first place, updated/correct bus timetables and honest such as transparent communication about why certain buses do not show up at all, even though they are mentioned on the bus time tables. People who do not use or own cars for their own varied reasons should not be punished for making the decision to use public transport, in order to commute to work and other places or appointments. People depend on the punctuality and reliable information about when buses are supposed to arrive at their allocated bus stop. I, myself had to spend lots of money on ordering taxis or Ubers last minute, only because the bus that I planned on taking did not show up (without any explanations or obvious reasons). Me and many other citizens depend on public transport, in order to show up at our work places on time. So many times I was late for work or had to take a taxi in the end, because no buses showed up. My partner is waking up over one hour earlier than he realistically could, only because from his own experience he knows that there is never a certainty of buses coming. He wakes up so early, in order to be prepared for the case of not only one but, two buses in a row not arriving at the designated bus stop. This situation creates and causes frustration, chronic anxiety and stress, such as misery and unnecessarily wasted resources like money, time and mental capacity. There have to be drastic improvements happening, in order for people to be able to be able to trust the bus time tables and finally make it to work on time. Galway presents itself as a busy, touristy and lively city. Such cities are usually able to provide highly standardised infrastructure and strict plans for public transport. Ideally, buses should arrive every 5-10 minutes, people who do not live in the city centre should not be disadvantaged (like e.g. me living in Knocknacarra) and promised buses must arrive (even if they arrive late). Please consider our anger and frustration. Not everybody is privileged enough to own and use a car, nor does everyone decide to drive a car due to environmental reasons, for instance. The public transport must be more reliable and people should be compensated for all the times they have been left standing in the rain, waiting for at least one and a half hours, being forced to spend all their money on taxis, sincs there is no other way of arriving anywhere and so forth. An argument often brought up is the traffic jams. Infrastructural changes might be considered too, if this is apparently the only reason behind the inefficiency of public transport. The road lanes are way too narrow for vehicles, buses, cyclists and pedestrians to all move on them. Please do not make promises that you cannot fulfill like hanging out bus time tables which cannot be trusted at all. We are all paying for the bus services, but I am refusing to pay for a service which does not provide the bare minimum of what it is supposed to offer. Enough is enough.

  • Dublin's Health Emergency We need public toilet & hand washing facilities.
This petition calls on Dublin City Council in the wake of Covid 19 and to address the urgent issue of the city’s poor hygiene infrastructure and lack of public toilets. DCC currently has no action plan or budget allocated to place temporary toilets in and around the city, to be in place ahead of the June 8th (Phase 2) of unlocking the economy. Dublin City needs to be made to more attractive to retain repeat custom, this effects all business especially the retail & hospitality sectors. If you need toilet and cannot find please use #dubcaughtshort The DCC needs to act now Please take the Time to sign this petition and also I would be grateful if you could go to my GO FUND ME PAGE. I hope to raise some funds to place some temporary toilets in the city with in the coming days, the aim will be to force DCC to immediate act roll out facilities before June 8th.
