  • The future of transport is zero-carbon
Ours is a different future. One that’s far more exciting (and liberating) than anything we’ve seen from the car industry thus far.

  • Improve accessibility Clonlara
** Petition update: On 02.09.2025 ** On the above date this petition was updated to extend the proposed footpath to include improving accessibility from the area of Runard Clonlara (also located on R463) to Clonlara Village. We, the undersigned residents of Clonlara residing  on the R463 road 1 km and 2 km from the village of Clonlara, wish to petition for urgent action regarding the safety and accessibility of our community to Clonlara village.  We are currently disconnected from our village and community due to the lack of a safe pedestrian route. The R463 is a busy thoroughfare with an existing speed limit of 80 km/h, and despite being within such a short walking distance, there is no footpath connecting our homes to Clonlara village. This situation creates a significant safety hazard and effectively prevents us from accessing essential village services and amenities, including: • The local bus services to Limerick city and Killaloe etc. Despite proximity to Clonlara village there is currently no safe and accessible pedestrian route between the two areas. Residents are forced to walk, unsafe, and vehicle- congested roads, putting lives at risk- particularly children, the elderly and individuals with disabilities. University students who wish to access bus services safely are unable to do so, removing residing at home as an option for Limerick University & technical college students. • The local school. Children from our area cannot walk or cycle to school, contributing to significant traffic congestion on the Clonlara Bridge every morning. Many families, if given the choice, would choose to combat this by walking or cycling thus reducing the longstanding traffic issues experienced by all Clonlara residents every morning. • The local GAA pitches, community centers, and churches. • The new greenway intended to connect Limerick, Clonlara, O'Briensbridge, Castleconnell , Killaloe and Scarriff. We will be unable to access this new amenity without driving to it. This is prohibitive for many elderly who would have to lift and mount bikes to cars to drive a short distance and defeats the purpose of promoting active travel and climate action goals. This lack of safe passage has a negative impact on the local community, its economy, and the environment. We believe that improving accessibility would not only enhance the safety and well-being of residents but also help local businesses, such as the recently closed local shop and the remaining bars and restaurants, by allowing more people to access them on foot.  Community accessibility is vital for fostering a sense of belonging because it ensures everyone, regardless of their age, physical or cognitive abilities, can participate fully in community life. When public spaces, services, and events are designed to be accessible, they remove barriers that might otherwise isolate individuals.  By making it easier for all community members to navigate their surroundings, communities signal that everyone is a valued member. This inclusive environment not only allows individuals to engage in social, economic, and cultural activities, but it also creates a shared experience of mutual respect and acceptance. Ultimately, true belonging comes from feeling that a community is built for you, and accessibility is the foundation of that feeling.  We therefore call upon Clare County Council to take immediate steps to remedy this critical issue. We request that you: 1. Install a dedicated footpath including pedestrian crossings along the R463 from the village of Clonlara as far as Aughboy & Runard. Thus creating a safe route for pedestrians, cyclists, and mobility scooter users living along this route. 2. Reduce the speed limit on this stretch of road from 80 km/h to 60 km/h to ensure the safety of all road users, including pedestrians currently crossing in hazardous conditions and vehicles entering and exiting the areas listed.  3. Liaise with Bus Eireann to install official bus stops at Monaskeha / Aughboy to improve accessibility  By taking these actions, you will not only address a significant safety concern but also foster a more connected and inclusive community. A footpath and a reduced speed limit will allow residents to safely access their village, supporting local businesses and enhancing the overall well-being of our community. Clare County council spends countless hours and funds promoting health via programs such as Active Travel, Healthy Clare etc. We believe the request to support this initiative falls under the scope of Clare County Councils current mission and goals around community health and could be considered under one of the many funds and schemes designed to support this.  We also believe this request falls under Clare County Council’s duty of care around safe accessibility. Additionally this project could be supported under one of the many climate action goals and funds due to the reduction in car travel it will support. The above means that this project could come under one of many remits, increasing the likelihood of available funding to support it.   Finally as mentioned it will also contribute to reduced traffic at Clonlara school each morning, which has been a long standing issue for all Clonlara residents and will only get worse with the addition of two new housing estates to Clonlara village. We thank you for your attention to this critical matter. Sincerely, R463 Clonlara residents

  • Use Galway's Public Land for Universal Public Housing!
The people of Galway need Universal Public Housing! The Land Development Agency (LDA) have so far earmarked three significant public land banks in Galway City, which are to be used to deliver much-needed homes. These three sites are located on the Sandy Road, Dyke Road and the Docks. Together, they have potential to deliver around 1,200 new homes to the people of Galway. While this sound positive, unless these homes are genuinely and permanently affordable, it will not address the core cause of the housing crisis - which is the lack of public housing. We are calling on the LDA and Galway City Council to work together to deliver Universal Public Housing to the people of Galway. UP Housing (Universal Public Housing) is a proposed new system of public housing that would be open to everyone that is in need of a home, regardless of their income.  Everyone means everyone - nurses, teachers, pensioners, construction workers, carers, students, retail workers, the self-employed, the temporarily unemployed and everyone else that is need of a home would all live side by side in well-designed UP Housing developments. Each family would have total security of tenure, including inter-generational tenancies in a mature system. And each family would only pay an affordable rent linked to their income. UP Housing is fundamentally different to the current model of 'social housing' that is only open to those on low and very low incomes. 'Social housing' is structurally designed to create concentrations of poverty and concentrations of the problems associated with poverty.  UP Housing, on the other hand, is designed for people of all incomes, classes, ages and family types to live, work and play together in stable, balanced communities. UP Housing is not simply another version of 'social housing'. It's an entirely different approach to how we build not only physical housing, but also communities and our society.  Unlike 'social housing', a new system of UP Housing would be self-funding over time. The rent paid by tenants and the indirect benefits to the economy of a stable, affordable, housing sector would more than pay for the construction and maintenance costs of a new system of UP Housing. European cities like Vienna have had hugely successful universal public housing for many decades. If it works there, it can work in Ireland too.  The state has the land, finance, expertise and legal powers to make Universal Public Housing a successful reality. The only thing that's missing is the political will to make it happen. By signing this petition you are helping to build that political will. Together we can create a demand for UP Housing that the government and wider political establishment will not be able to ignore!

  • SAVE MOUNT LEINSTER FROM INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT
SAVE MOUNT LEINSTER FROM INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT 1st FEBRUARY 2024 AN BORD PLEANALA DECISION TO REFUSE PLANNING PERMISSION QUASHED! On 6th March 2023 An Bord Pleanála (ABP) made a decision to refuse an appeal by Coillte (now known as Future Energy Ireland) to grant planning permission for the windfarm. However, Coillte/ Future Energy challenged this refusal and we were informed on January 19th 2024 that this decision has now been quashed by order of the High Court. The case has been remitted by the Court to ABP for a new ruling, which means that the appeal has been reactivated. No rationale was given for this development - we’ve been told by ABP that they are not obliged to provide any reasons for their decision to concede. SO, UNFORTUNATELY, THE FIGHT TO SAVE MOUNT LEINSTER IS FAR FROM OVER….. A SAVE MOUNT LEINSTER TOWN HALL MEETING WILL TAKE PLACE IN MYSHALL HALL ON TUESDAY 6th FEB 2024 @ 8.30pm - ALL WELCOME TO ATTEND For further information and advice re next steps please see our website savemountleinster.com If you want to support the campaign to 'Save Mount Leinster', please donate to our Go Fund Me Campaign @ https://gofund.me/85877bd0 Please share with your family and friends.

  • MAKE SCHOOLS COVID19 SAFE
There are no “protective measures” in schools as per the governments road map. To ensure the safety of children & school staff we need: 1.COVID19 specialised ventilation with fans & filters; Dept of Education recommends rooms need to be kept above 16 degrees so fans & filters to remove aerosols hanging in the air are a necessity. 2. Funding for rain cover outdoors so time can be spent outdoors. 3. An online learning system for when children are out due to COVID19. 4. Smaller classrooms across the board achieved by having children in one day, out the next - this will half class numbers. 6. RAPID TEST & TRACE. CONTACT TRACING in line with ECDC & WHO guidelines. Close contacts of a positive case is every person in that same classroom over a period of TWO WEEKS not two days. Procedures & contact tracing must follow the same process as if the positive case were in The Dail. Currently the goal posts for close contacts has been moved countless times for schools. 7. Routine COVID19 testing for school staff. 8. Random mass testing of all kids in a classroom on a weekly basis with Positive figures published to the public.

  • Save Lucan Village & Taxi Rank
Hi, I am a taxi driver working Lucan rank the last 15 years, alongside with many other drivers. There was 4 spaces in the rank & 2 lanes, which has now been narrowed down to one lane and the taxi rank is no longer there. Reducing this side of the village to one lane will cause chaos for everyone , especially with children going back to school.  Also this taxi rank has been ongoing for 15+ years. I have been in contact with a local county councillor and she has arranged to meet with me and other other taxi drivers on this topic later this week to voice our opinions. I am making this petition as I feel like this narrow road will affect all residents and businesses of Lucan due to traffic congestion & it will also have a big impact on our Lucan taxi rank. If the rank is not easy accessible for the public & taxi drivers ,this will result in taxi drivers moving elsewhere and the people of Lucan will be at a loss as well.  I would highly appreciate anybody who would like to sign this petition, as I would like to present it to South Dublin county council to try and make a change. Thank you.  Paul Poynton
