  • Save The Wombles Preschool & Afterschool Care
As parents, we are reaching out to the wider community for support in saving The Wombles Preschool and Afterschool service, which has been an invaluable part of our community for over a decade. The Wombles has not only provided essential early childhood education (ECCE) but also after-school care for more than 50 children, offering working parents peace of mind and a safe, nurturing environment for our children. Today, Monday March 3rd we were informed by The Wombles that due to pressure from the SENO, the classroom rented by The Wombles in Scoil Mhuire, Lucan, may be repurposed as an autism class starting in September 2025. While we fully support the need for additional autism resources, the loss of this space will have a devastating impact on families who rely on The Wombles for both preschool and after-school care. Currently, 44 children attend the ECCE programme, benefiting from the strong educational foundation that prepares them for primary school. Additionally, 54 children are enrolled in the after-school service for September 2025. Without this service, dozens of families will be left scrambling for alternative childcare options in an area already severely lacking in facilities. Lucan is a growing community with an ever-increasing demand for childcare services, yet there has been no investment in additional facilities to support this growth. Every day, parents struggle to find available preschool and after-school placements. The loss of this service will only worsen an already dire situation.

  • Save Moore Street from Demolition
Conserve Moore Street area as a cultural historical quarter and street market.  We wish the sixteen-building Moore Street terrace to remain intact. We do not wish the decision on how to manage the area to be left in the hands of property developer or developers. We believe that the future sensitive development and conservation of this area should be in public ownership and along lines agreed by public consultation.

  • Save Lucan Village & Taxi Rank
Hi, I am a taxi driver working Lucan rank the last 15 years, alongside with many other drivers. There was 4 spaces in the rank & 2 lanes, which has now been narrowed down to one lane and the taxi rank is no longer there. Reducing this side of the village to one lane will cause chaos for everyone , especially with children going back to school.  Also this taxi rank has been ongoing for 15+ years. I have been in contact with a local county councillor and she has arranged to meet with me and other other taxi drivers on this topic later this week to voice our opinions. I am making this petition as I feel like this narrow road will affect all residents and businesses of Lucan due to traffic congestion & it will also have a big impact on our Lucan taxi rank. If the rank is not easy accessible for the public & taxi drivers ,this will result in taxi drivers moving elsewhere and the people of Lucan will be at a loss as well.  I would highly appreciate anybody who would like to sign this petition, as I would like to present it to South Dublin county council to try and make a change. Thank you.  Paul Poynton

  • Equal rights, proper pay and national job discription for Health Care Assistants and carers
To treat health care Assistants properly as they make up the backbone of the front line staff in all settings, homecare, public hospitals, private hospitals, and private and public nursing residence , they also are supposed to be patient focused, the patient is priority. There is no proper national job discription for carers /HCAs, so management exploit this, there is only 7 increments which is roughly €36,000 per annum before, tax, there is no higher position ie supervisory roles, or managerial roles, which is unfair as every other discipline have ie catering and porters, also not all HCAs want to change their career path, so should have a middle management and higher management roles made available to them. They were supposed to be trained to do more medical assessments ie observations, Blood pressures, and blood sugars etc to name a few, back in the year 2000.but we are behind the UK and other countries regarding this, they have licensed practical nurses, Nurses aid,or Nursing support staff. The home carers also who save the country millions should also be taken in to proper consideration, their weekly carers allowance should not be mean tested as they look after their own family members, they should actually be paid more, as they save as said the country millions as if they had to bring in carers from agencies for eg they would have to pay higher rates. Both areas are being exploited and in this day in age they should be treated fairly.
