Recent Media Reports have outlined that the future of the Fire Station in Ballyshannon is under threat, together with other Fire Stations in the Donegal Municipal District. Local Councillors have expressed early objection to the potential closures. However, they have also suggested that the decision may be taken out of their hands. The County Council covers a broad range of services, but this kind of decision may ultimately impact on lives. Therefore, this Petition has been set up to give the public an opportunity to document their objection to the move. The issue of stations running into disrepair is reflective of previous inaction in term of necessary upgrade works. The people of Ballyshannon and the area that this station covers, who benefit from the Trojan work of the crew in this station, should not be collateral damage as a result of this. We are requesting that Donegal County Council overturn any decision that has been made to close Ballyshannon Fire Station. We are also urging our local elected representatives from Donegal Municipal District to advocate on our behalf and force the issue at County Council level. We are strongly opposed to the recent designation of Trim Educate Together National School as having ‘half-stream’ status and are calling on the Department of Education & Skills to re-designate it as a full-stream school immediately. We are also asking as a matter of urgency that the Department of Education provide suitable permanent accommodation for the school so that it can grow to full capacity to serve the children of Trim into the future. This includes considering the possibility of relocating the school to a greenfield site - a suitable site on the Dublin road has already been zoned for education (2014-2020 Trim Development Plan). We ask that Cork City Council adopt a 5 year Tree Policy. By adopting a Tree Policy, the City Council will be enabled to: -communicate why and how some trees need to be managed; -commit to carrying out tree maintenance works in line with best practice (British Standard BS 3998: 2010); -highlight the importance of trees and the many eco-systems services they provide (cleaner air, lower noise pollution, ecological habitats, emotional well-being, etc); -outline a tree planting action plan; and -record trees and woodlands of importance in the city.
