Amend NTA Feasibility Study Terms of Reference

Metro South West Group supported by 38 Residents Associations is calling on the Minister to AMEND the Terms of Reference for the Feasibility Study being carried out by the NTA’s Consultants. This study is the"Metro to Knocklyon Feasibility Study" . The area between the Red and Green Luas lines, with a population of 230,000 ,has no Rail or LRT , and an inadequate bus service.

Why is this important?

1. The Study is treating the line as a stand alone line , rather than a continuation of the Metrolink from the Malahide Estuary to City Centre and onto South West Dublin.
2. It has excluded large parts of the Population lying between the Red & Green Luas lines.
3. The Study has excluded from consideration the obvious Connectivity of extending the line from Firhouse to the Red Line at Tallaght.
4. It is failing to use the Place of Work, School or College Data POWSCAR from the 2016 Census.
5. It is ignoring the potential of larger population usage by people accessing the link through cycling, walking, buses, cars from nearby areas.
6. This still developing area of Dublin has over 70% car usage due to deficiencies in Public Transport.
7. Metro South West could serve Rathmines, Harolds Cross, Terenure, Kimmage, Rathfarnham, Templeogue, Knocklyon, Firhouse, South Tallaght.
8. The increased Connectivity to Red and Green Luas, Heuston, Connolly, Grangegorman, Airport Transport hubs will benefit the Greater Dublin Area.

Currently, we are at a critical point in the campaign. We will be speaking on two occassions at the An Bord Pleanala hearings into the application by Transport Infastructure for Ireland for Metrolink. We strongly support Metrolink. However, we disagree with the extension beyond St. Stephen's Green to Charlemont. This is a duplication of Luas from SSG to Charlemont. More importantly now, it restricts the options for Metrolink to go to the South West Suburbs. Certainly , it will make it very difficult to serve Rathmines/Portobello area. With over 350000 residents between the two Luas lines and no rail or Bus Corridor, the need for a Metro is obvious. We have engaged an eminent Professor of Transport Austin Smyth to review the flawed Feasibility study conducted by NTA into Metro from City Centre to Knocklyon. This Review will be part of our presentation to An Bord Pleanala. This review comes at a cost of nearly 28000€. Please donate. https://gofund.me/c61d21c3

We have not been in touch with you since February 2022. Since then NTA have published THEIR feasibility study . It has many Flaws . See in this Link.https://knocklyonnetwork.com/nta-feasibility-study-what-are-the-obvious-flaws/
We have commissioned a Professor of Transport Economics to review the Feasibility Study at considerable cost. We need to raise funds to cover this cost. Please donate here. https://gofund.me/c61d21c3

Disappointing Meeting with Minister. Need to push your Politicians to pressure the Minister.

2021-03-25 15:43:13 +0000

Metro South West Group Steering Committee met on Tuesday 6th of April with Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan, Francis Duffy TD , Patrick Costello TD and Councillor Claire Byrne. We made a very strong presentation for the Metro South West and for amendments to the Current Terms of Reference for the NTA Feasibility Studies. The Minister agreed with much of the presentation we made, justifying the need for a Metro to South West Dublin . He agreed to ask the NTA to consider extending the current feasibility study to the South West of Dublin to include Firhouse and connecting to Tallaght. He also agreed to ask the NTA as to what routes are possible from Beechwood/Charlemont. We did not succeed in getting his agreement that Stephen’s Green is the obvious hub for a line to the South West, or to amend the Terms of Reference. We will be following this meeting up with more contact with the Minister and other politicians, and the NTA and other interested parties.
