  • Barge residential and commercial mooring permits for The Grand and Royal Canal in Dublin
Waterways Ireland ,Dublin City council and The Minister for Heritage, housing committee members . The signatures on this petition are requesting consideration from the Dublin City Council development plan and Waterways Ireland for continuous mooring permits for residential and commercial barges along the Royal and Grand canal in Dublin metropolitan area . We are asking for a fair and transparent application process for permits which has not been outlined in the new byelaws . We are asking for permanent mooring permits along the navigation on the grand canal for boats who have been refused permits and are in limbo. We are asking for these moorings in Dublin on the grand canal inside the metropolitan area not in another county. By signing and remaining on this petition we absolutely object to the second draft of the canal bye laws whereby waterways Ireland are eliminating the opportunity for permanent house boat moorings outside grand canal dock in the Dublin metropolitan area. We absolutely object to the exorbitant increase in fees which could be done in a much fairer and gradual manner , especially as many areas have not been given a guarantee of the very basic facilities such as running water . We are also asking for the long overdue provision of waste water facilities for boats along the Royal and Grand canal via pump out stations and fresh water taps to be located between locks to preserve water quality . We would like to see a body/ board introduced to over see the operation of waterways Ireland, this was recommended in the past and ignored . We would like to see liveaboards treated with dignity and respect by waterways Ireland . We would like to see a copy of accounts from this public body published In a fair , transparent and timely manner . It is unacceptable that they are unavailable. We would also like to see previous recommendations for coffee docks and various other commercial moorings being made available and put to tender in a fair and transparent manner outlined in the new bye laws . This has been overlooked and not clarified . The issue of antisocial behaviour has been prevalent in Portobello Harbour in recent times. Many Portobello residents feel that a presence on the water, by way of a barge community, will help alleviate some of the unwanted gatherings which take place nightly on the canalside. This proposed mooring would breathe new life into the empty and poorly lite stretches adjacent to Portobello Harbour. Furthermore, it will add visually to the area and increase the sense of community for both land and water residence. Businesses and the local economy have faced a very difficult time over this last 3 to 4 years during Covid . This is an opportunity as a society to reflect on the use of public space and to possibly reimagine our use of, and relationship with, that space, so that we can reopen our society and city with renewed hope as we recover from the exceptional challenges posed by Covid-19. It is time for Liveaboard boats in Ireland to have recognition. Dialogue need to start about moorings , services and permits nationally , not just in Dublin . There is numerous barges moored for several years on the grand canal without permits or appropriate planning permission . They would like to remain . We would like to discuss the option of getting appropriate permits or retention permission in the near future. We are asking for your help in making this a reality for The grand canal in Dublin. • Oppose Shannon LNG For Peace & Climate Justice - No Fracked Gas, No Complicity in Genocide
Reject Fracked Gas. Reject Fossil Colonialism. Reject Complicity in Genocide. To: [Insert TD's Name or Minister Darragh O'Brien] From: [Your Name] Constituency: [Insert Constituency] Date: [Insert Date] Dear [TD's Name or Minister O'Brien], I am writing to register my unequivocal opposition to the proposed Shannon LNG terminal at Ballylongford, County Kerry. This is not simply an energy infrastructure project - it is a moral, environmental, public health, and geopolitical crisis in the making. Its approval would undermine Ireland’s climate commitments, endanger communities at home and abroad, and tie our national infrastructure to systems of injustice, war, and extraction. 1. Fracked Gas Is a Climate Bomb - Not an "Energy Security" Solution The proposed LNG terminal, operated by New Fortress Energy, would import fracked gas from the U.S., with a minimum of six shipments per year, each carrying 170,000 cubic meters of LNG—equivalent to 5.69 TWh of energy annually or the demand of 1.35 million Irish homes, far exceeding any need for "emergency backup." Rather than serving households or small businesses, the project is driven by the growing demand of data centres, which currently consume 21% of Ireland’s electricity and are projected to reach 30% by 2030. This represents a significant expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure, not a minor reserve. This is energy colonialism, disguised as national security. Ireland is already facing multibillion-euro fines under EU law for failing to meet emissions targets, with projected costs ranging between €8 and €26 billion by 2030. Approving a major new gas import terminal will only deepen this liability and burden Irish taxpayers, while multinational fossil fuel companies profit. 2. Fracked Gas Is a Public Health Emergency The gas imported through Shannon LNG would be fracked gas—obtained via hydraulic fracturing (ie. fracking) in the United States, primarily in areas such as Pennsylvania, Texas, and Ohio. These operations are associated with elevated rates of cancer (particularly childhood leukemia), neurological disorders, birth defects, air and groundwater contamination from methane, benzene, and toluene, as well as induced seismic activity (earthquakes). Ireland banned fracking in 2017 with the Petroleum and Other Minerals Development (Prohibition of Onshore Hydraulic Fracturing) Act, recognizing these dangers. The scientific consensus on fracking’s harms is overwhelming. To import fracked gas is to outsource these harms to working-class and rural, and often marginalised communities in the U.S. It is climate hypocrisy of the highest order. 3. LNG Infrastructure Locks Ireland Into Fossil Dependence LNG terminals are long-term investments, with infrastructure lifespans of 30–50 years. Once built, the Shannon terminal would entrench fossil fuel dependence for decades to come, regardless of future emissions targets or renewable alternatives. This directly contradicts Ireland’s legal obligations under the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act (2021) and the EU’s Green Deal, and it violates the science-based requirement to phase out fossil gas by 2035 to remain within the 1.5°C global warming threshold. 4. New Fortress Energy Is Entangled With Israeli Military and Surveillance Tech New Fortress Energy, the U.S. company behind the Shannon LNG terminal, is not just a fossil fuel firm, it is a partner in global militarism. In 2021, New Fortress invested in H2Pro, an Israeli green hydrogen company spun out of Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, a university deeply embedded in the Israeli military-industrial complex. Technion’s labs and researchers are known for developing drone warfare systems, border surveillance technologies, as well as AI systems used in the occupation of Palestine. In March 2025, H2Pro signed a deal with the state owned Latvian firm 'Latvenergo' to expand into the EU’s green hydrogen market. Every euro earned through Shannon LNG may help fuel this expansion — linking Irish infrastructure to Israeli war technologies at a time when the International Court of Justice has ruled that Israel may be committing acts of genocide in Gaza. This is unacceptable. It violates the moral conscience of the Irish people and contradicts decades of support for Palestinian self-determination. 5. Communities Across Ireland Reject This Project The Shannon LNG terminal has faced strong, consistent opposition from grassroots groups, including Love Leitrim, Futureproof Clare, Safety Before LNG, Extinction Rebellion Ireland, Future Generations Kerry, Not Here Not Anywhere, Slí Eile, and Gluaiseacht. Our Demands I call on you, in your role as a public servant and legislator, to: 1. Publicly oppose the Shannon LNG terminal and call for its cancellation   2. Support legislation to ban the import of fracked gas into Ireland   3. Reject New Fortress Energy’s involvement in Irish infrastructure   4. Push for a moratorium on new data centre connections until a full climate impact assessment is complete   5. Support investment in renewable energy, public ownership, and community resilience With urgency and solidarity,   [Your Full Name]   [Your Constituency]   [Contact Email / Phone, if desired]

  • Tuam Students Demand Safer Road Conditions and Access to Sports Facilities
As concerned parents and students of Tuam Educate Together National School, we are writing to bring attention to several road safety concerns that affect our daily commute to school and our children’s safety while at school.  We respectfully request that consideration be given to the following proposals to improve road safety for students in Tuam:  Grant access to the adjacent Sports Pitches and Sports Hall for students from Tuam Educate Together National School. Install speed bumps on Dublin Road, Athenry Road, and Frank Stockwell Road to reduce traffic speeds and promote a safer walking environment for students. This will ensure that students can walk safely to and from school, regardless of the road conditions. Install illuminated speed signs on these roads with clear signage indicating the recommended speed limit in the town (30 km/hr) to educate drivers about the need for reduced speeds and promote a culture of safety.  Employ a School Warden to provide support for students crossing Dublin Road near the Old Courthouse, ensuring their safe passage during morning, afternoon, and daytime hours.  Make provision for parking along these three routes to ensure safe drop off and collections for students and their families every morning and evening, in particular adequate spaces for people with disabilities to park. We appeal to the Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien, An Taisce, the RSA and the Department of Transport to prioritise Tuam Schools in their Safer Routes to School programme to ensure that students in Tuam can access their schools safely. We ask that Galway County Council expedite their Tuam Active Travel Scheme so that construction begins this year on the Dublin Road to ensure students will be able to travel safely to and from school. We believe that these measures will significantly improve road safety for students in Tuam and contribute to creating a more harmonious and pedestrian-friendly community and enable safe and convenient transportation of students before and after school. We would be grateful if you could consider our proposals and take steps to address these concerns.

  • Use Nama Buildings for Public Housing
Instead of prioritising public housing Nama is being actively used to build/provide private housing. Nama is owned by the state and we are in the middle of a housing emergency. Niamh McDonald, one of the coordinators and activists with Irish Housing Network, accurately explained the purpose of the occupation. Niamh McDonald one of the organisers of the Apollo House occupation says : “It exposes the government’s inadequate response to the homelessness crisis and the way in which through NAMA they are putting profits and economic gain before the needs of our most vulnerable citizens”.
