SAVE MOUNT LEINSTER FROM INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENTSAVE MOUNT LEINSTER FROM INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT 1st FEBRUARY 2024 AN BORD PLEANALA DECISION TO REFUSE PLANNING PERMISSION QUASHED! On 6th March 2023 An Bord Pleanála (ABP) made a decision to refuse an appeal by Coillte (now known as Future Energy Ireland) to grant planning permission for the windfarm. However, Coillte/ Future Energy challenged this refusal and we were informed on January 19th 2024 that this decision has now been quashed by order of the High Court. The case has been remitted by the Court to ABP for a new ruling, which means that the appeal has been reactivated. No rationale was given for this development - we’ve been told by ABP that they are not obliged to provide any reasons for their decision to concede. SO, UNFORTUNATELY, THE FIGHT TO SAVE MOUNT LEINSTER IS FAR FROM OVER….. A SAVE MOUNT LEINSTER TOWN HALL MEETING WILL TAKE PLACE IN MYSHALL HALL ON TUESDAY 6th FEB 2024 @ 8.30pm - ALL WELCOME TO ATTEND For further information and advice re next steps please see our website savemountleinster.com If you want to support the campaign to 'Save Mount Leinster', please donate to our Go Fund Me Campaign @ https://gofund.me/85877bd0 Please share with your family and friends.3,651 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by The Blackstairs and Barrow Valley Network .

Save The Bats - Stop McDonald’s Magherafelt ConstructionStatement Calling for the Suspension of McDonald’s Construction in Magherafelt Local environmentalists have demanded the suspension of all building works at the new McDonald's restaurant site , in Magherafelt . There have been sightings of bats on the site and to disturb it would be contrary to environmental protection laws. " This action is necessitated by the presence of a cauldron of Natterer's bats living in close proximity to the site of the new restaurant. This species of bat is among the rarest in Ireland, we are lucky to have them. It can take years for a colony of this significance to develop. If the construction process does not destroy the colony then noise and light pollution from a busy restaurant will. Under the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (as amended) and the Conservation (Natural Habitats, etc.) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995, it is an offence to intentionally disturb or destroy the habitats of protected species, including bats. These laws are in place to ensure the conservation of our rich biodiversity and to protect species that are vital to our ecosystem. Bats are not only integral to maintaining ecological balance by controlling insect populations, but they are also bioindicators, reflecting the health of our environment. The disturbance or destruction of their habitat would not only be a violation of Northern Ireland’s wildlife protection laws but also a significant ecological loss. We ask for the law to be enforced and the protections to be implemented . The developer must halt the construction immediately to safeguard our natural heritage and comply with the legal obligations set forth to protect endangered species. This restaurant will cause massive environmental damage if opened. We ask all political representatives to come together to save the bats of Magherafelt. Save Cavan Midwifery Led Unit (MLU)The Cavan-Monaghan Midwifery Led Unit within Cavan General Hospital has been informed it is no longer able to book anyone for maternity care as of 1st June 2020. This limits the choices of care for pregnant people, working opportunities for midwives and learning experience for students. There has been no rationale given for the decision despite the wealth of evidence supporting access to Midwifery Led Units both nationally and internationally. It is also in direct opposition to the National Maternity Strategy (2016) which is yet to be implemented to its full potential. Midwifery -led care has been successful in providing higher satisfaction and better outcomes in the physical and psychological health for women among numerous other benefits. How can I help? – sign and share the petition, read below for more details and evidence, contact your local and national representatives to voice your concerns (template email coming soon) and read below for more details and evidence .11,586 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Laura Henry

Save Ladys Island Lake, Co. WexfordYour support is requested for our campaign to protect the lake from further pollution. This can happen in conjunction with a wide range of measures to be agreed and implemented over a lengthy period of time in a proposed action plan. A vital aim of the campaign is to urgently reduce the level of nitrates entering Ladys Island lake i.e. up to 60 tons of nitrates enters the lake annually as indicated in the EPA Clear report. Ongoing water pollution is indefensible and particularly within a unique Special Area of Conservation and Special Protection Area in County Wexford. Ladys Island Lake is facing a critical environmental crisis with water quality continuing to decline despite years of warnings. Our campaign is calling for immediate enforcement action under the Water Pollution Acts 1990-1997 Our Campaign Objectives We are seeking: • Information including the terms of reference and the parties involved in the proposed action plan led by Wexford County Council, and the timescales for the agreed actions. • Support for our campaign from elected representatives in the County Council and the Oireachtas, along with the provision of immediate funding and staff resources to adequately monitor and reduce water pollution levels at the lake. • Monthly inspections by Council staff to test water quality within the lake catchment area and enforcement cases pursued in the event of non compliance with actions required to prevent water pollution. • Support for farmers to implement positive environmental changes and help to substantially reduce the levels of water pollution in the lake within a short period. This represents a crucial opportunity for you to demonstrate your commitment to improve water quality, and to protect and restore the lake, along with the landowners and all state agencies involved.263 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Ciara Murphy
