  • Save Ballyshannon Fire Station
Recent Media Reports have outlined that the future of the Fire Station in Ballyshannon is under threat, together with other Fire Stations in the Donegal Municipal District. Local Councillors have expressed early objection to the potential closures. However, they have also suggested that the decision may be taken out of their hands. The County Council covers a broad range of services, but this kind of decision may ultimately impact on lives. Therefore, this Petition has been set up to give the public an opportunity to document their objection to the move. The issue of stations running into disrepair is reflective of previous inaction in term of necessary upgrade works. The people of Ballyshannon and the area that this station covers, who benefit from the Trojan work of the crew in this station, should not be collateral damage as a result of this. We are requesting that Donegal County Council overturn any decision that has been made to close Ballyshannon Fire Station. We are also urging our local elected representatives from Donegal Municipal District to advocate on our behalf and force the issue at County Council level. They are: ·       Cllr Michael McMahon ·       Cllr Micheal Naughton ·       Cllr Manus Boyle ·       Cllr Noel Jordan ·       Cllr Niamh Kennedy ·       Cllr Jimmy Brogan

  • Save Blackrock Summer festival
We are calling on Louth County Council to continue supporting the long-standing tradition of the Blackrock Funfair, and to allow us equal access to public spaces—including in Carlingford. The funfair is fully compliant with all legal requirements and contributes positively to the local economy, culture, and family life. Despite this, pressure from a small number of individuals—who do not represent the wider community—now threatens our ability to operate in Blackrock and to secure a location in Carlingford. We have already reduced our stay in Blackrock from 14 days to 9 in good faith, to address local concerns. But further restrictions would be unfair, especially given that: • The car park we use is public property, available to all through official channels. • We pay full fees, follow all regulations, and meet all paperwork deadlines. • The event fosters community spirit and supports tourism in the area. • Funfairs are part of Irish cultural tradition, recognised by UNESCO as intangible heritage. This petition is not just about one event—it’s about protecting the right to trade, the right to fair treatment, and the importance of community traditions. Please sign to show your support for the funfair, for fairness, and for the future of family-friendly events in our towns.

  • Protect our Dail and our Presidency from applicants with criminal records
A chairde,  As it stands the rules regarding who is eligible for nomination for candicacy for a Dáil Eireann position or indeed, for running for the office of president of Ireland, are too tolerant of applicants with criminal backgrounds. Currently, only the position of serving six months in jail at the time of nomination, would forfeit a citizens candicacy opportunity. In light of the recent takeover of power in the U.S. by a president with a criminal record and the recent seeking of a nomination in Ireland by a well-known Irish MMA fighter with a criminal record, the rules should be changed and strengthened. It is not sufficent protection to the respected roles of these great offices to allow persons with records of criminal offences to gain power in this manner. I propose that it should be a minimum requirement, enshrined in law, that all T.D. and Presidential hopefuls in Ireland be completly free of criminal records and subject to a background check upon entry. I call on our government now and our county councils to enact legislation to change this vulnerability in our system before the next elections.
