Call on The Johnstown Estate to Cancel Anti-Trans April 5th Event

We’re officially closing the petition following the fantastic news that Johnstown has cancelled the event. This is a huge win, and it wouldn’t have happened without the collective effort of everyone who signed, shared, and spoke up.

The goal of this petition was to stop the event from going ahead at that venue and we did exactly that. Thank you for being part of this important pushback against far-right organising in Ireland. There will be more to come, and we’ll keep standing together.

I’m urging you to cancel the “Safeguarding Children’s Education” conference scheduled for April 5th. By hosting this event, the Johnstown Estate is platforming transphobia and endangering the safety and dignity of trans youth in Ireland.

Why is this important?

This event promotes harmful misinformation about transgender people particularly trans youth under the false guise of “safeguarding.” Hosting it at a respected venue like the Johnstown Estate lends legitimacy to a movement that seeks to roll back LGBTQ+ rights and stoke fear in schools and communities.

This conference is part of a growing movement in Ireland that is pushing far-right, extremist ideology into public discourse. It is being framed as a conversation about schools and gender, but it goes much deeper. The organisers behind this event have repeatedly targeted trans people, the wider LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, asylum seekers, refugees, and Muslims.

This is not a one-issue campaign. It is a broader attack on the very idea of a diverse, inclusive Ireland.

In a time of rising hate, we must draw a firm line: transphobia is not “debate.” It is dangerous. Venues have a responsibility not to platform hate. Cancelling this event is a necessary stand for dignity, inclusion, and the safety of vulnerable young people.
