Boycott Allianz Insurance in Irish Schools
Schools must divest from Allianz now!
Tipperary for Palestine is calling on the Catholic Primary Schools Management Association (CPSMA), the Department of Education, school patrons, Boards of Management and Irish schools to divest from Allianz insurance and adopt insurance providers whose business practices align with the ethical values our schools are expected to uphold.
Allianz states that it insures 90% of primary schools and 50% of secondary schools in Ireland. Our campaign raises concerns about Allianz's financial links to the State of Israel, including reports that its subsidiary PIMCO has provided over US$1 billion in loans to Israel, and the company's decision in March 2025 to remove key ethical investment exclusions relating to military equipment and nuclear weapons. We believe these actions are incompatible with the values of justice, human dignity and human rights that schools seek to teach. We call fir ethical procurement where policies and practices align.
Why is this important?
Every procurement decision is a moral decision. Under international human rights law, we all have individual and collective responsibilities to uphold human rights. Our campaign believes schools should not purchase insurance from a company linked to financing or insuring activities connected to the genocide. Parents should never have to question whether money paid to protect their own children could support a company whose investments or business activities are associated with the ongoing genocide. We believe our schools must choose partners whose actions reflect the values of justice, dignity and accountability they teach every day.
