  • 24 Years Waiting for a School!!!
Gealcholáiste Reachrann in Donaghmede are waiting 24 years on a permanent school building! They are currently in prefabs not fit for purpose! Students and teachers have to wear their jackets all day to stay warm! This is absolutely outrageous in this day and age in one of the world’s richest countries! They also lack basic facilities other schools have in order for students to thrive. They have no school hall, no canteen, the outdoor area is very poor and they don’t even have a bike shed!!! We have been raising this issue since the beginning of the year, many others for years before us. We have been told by the department it was a priority for them for 2024 and despite us nearing the end of the year now, no progress has been made on this whatsoever! This is completely unacceptable, our children deserve better from our government!  We will not accept lip service on this matter any longer! We want action, and we want it now!!!

  • #FastAccessStamp4 for all international doctors in Ireland
    1) #FastAccessStamp4 - we acknowledge the upcoming policy that considers international doctors for a new two year multisite general work permit and eligibility for stamp 4 afterwards. However, we request you to acknowledge the contribution of those international doctors who worked tirelessly and bravely in this pandemic whilst thousands of miles away from their homeland FIRST. Please include them and their families first in your policy. https://twitter.com/LiqaDr/status/1480129521122742278?t=puh_RMoZXdur5frMrh6zig&s=19 2) #EqualityForDoctors – We appreciate the steps towards equal training access in the past couple of months, especially by considering all stamp 4’s equal for training. However, more than 95% of the international doctors who constitute 44% of the Irish health system are not in training. They share an equal amount of blood, sweat and tears in terms of job responsibilities and managing their workload alongside their Trainee colleagues but aren’t supported in the same way. They don’t get the same logistical and financial support as their training colleagues and their work is not recognised at the end in terms of any certificate. We request you to bring equality at all levels for all doctors. https://twitter.com/LiqaDr/status/1479489031046148107?t=OA8ysOH-0KXNh7yeIPOPEQ&s=19

  • Pedestrian Crossings in Ireland: We deserve better!
We are not given adequate time to cross the street and roads in Ireland at crossings. I want them to acknowledge that "4-6 seconds" is not adequate time for many people to cross at pedestrian crossings in Ireland. When we compare with France, Spain, and Portugal , pedestrian crossings are very rushed here, and people are not at all able to cross in a relaxed fashion in many cases. This is because the priority of the car over pedestrians is still enshrined in the time given to pedestrians to cross roads and streets in this country. It is also notable that there seems to be a lack of trust of Irish drivers to not speed in urban areas as the lack of Pelican Crossings here in our towns and cities is very noticeable. These are the best way to allow pedestrians cross and not have traffic building up.

  • Ballyhass School Bus
We request that the Ballyhass school bus be made available first and foremost to the children in the parish of Castlemagner and that they not be subject to a lottery system. The parish of Castlemagner begins at the Bridge over the River Dualla in Kanturk therefore the children in Gurteenard, Kilrush, Kilcaskin and Ballymacmurragh, plus many other townlands and also including the village of Castlemagner itself, are all children in the parish of Castlemagner and thus should be guaranteed a place on the local Bus Éireann school bus. These children go to school in Castlemagner, play hurling, football, camogie and ladies football with Castlemagner so for us to be told that we are concessionary and subject to a lottery system seems very unfair. Most especially when this lottery system could see them off the bus the very next year anyway. There surely has to be a better system to cater for the children in the parish. Be it a better system, or, a second bus for a large country school only served by one bus, we need to see change.
