  • Improve Post Natal Care For Women In Ireland
Under the Maternity & Infant Scheme which provides free ante natal and post-natal care to women in Ireland, women are offered one post-natal check-up at six weeks. This abrupt end to maternity care has the potential to be a huge barrier to women who need help with mental health concerns and more beyond the six-week check-up. 15-25% of Mothers in Ireland experience some form of depression in the first twelve months postnatally and peaks have been observed for depressive and stress symptoms at six and twelve-months post-partum. While statistics focus on numbers it is important to remember that these numbers represent real women, the mothers of Ireland who deserve to be cared for during the post-natal period.  The Maternity & Infant Scheme which has only been reviewed once in 1994, needs an urgent review with a focus on extending its coverage to include check-ups for women at three and twelve-months post-partum. It is largely agreed that women need longer than six weeks to recognise what is or isn’t normal for them and providing  more appointments with healthcare professionals gives women the opportunities they need to raise concerns they may have. Post-natal care, a critical component of maternal and child health, requires immediate and comprehensive attention. Ireland has one of the highest birth rates in Europe and so the need for robust post-natal care is more critical than ever. The Government needs to: 1. Conduct a thorough review of the current post-natal care services, identifying gaps and areas for improvement. 2. Allocate additional resources to ensure all new mothers receive the support they need, including mental health services, lactation consulting, and home visits by healthcare professionals. 3. Enhance training for healthcare providers in post-natal care and ensure adequate staffing levels to meet the increasing demand. 4. Develop and implement policies that support extended maternity leave and flexible working conditions for new parents, allowing them to prioritise their health and the well-being of their children.

  • Speed Ramps in Kilmanagh
Kilmanagh village in Co. Kilkenny is a busy pass through village for commuters in the surrounding areas and for local traffic. In recent years traffic has become more busy and unfortunately the speed seems to be increasing with it. Currently there is no traffic controls in the village, apart from a pedestrian crossing with lights for the school on the Kilmanagh to Callan Regional Road The main stretch of road, from the former Brennan's Pub to Abhainn Ri has become a runway for vehicles of all sorts, totally disregarding the safety of the people who walk the roads and the children who live in the village. The speed limit of 50km is rarely kept to by drivers and it creates an unsafe atmosphere through the village. The installation of speed ramps is essential to restrict the speed through the village. I am aware that the council are reluctant to install speed ramps in the village due to the possible noise they may cause. This noise is a small price that I'm sure we, as a community are all willing to accept for the safety of everyone in our village. Also it is nothing to the noise of speeding traffic and heavy machinery that is present in our village on a daily basis. The road that is requested for the speed ramps is the L1009, a road classified as a local road, not a regional road between Abhainn Ri and just past the formerly known Brennan's Pub.

  • Investigate Data Collection on Autistic People
After RTE 'Primetime' exposed the deliberate non-consensual sharing of detailed and sensitive information of approximately 48 autistic children and their families by their doctors, social workers, counsellors, consultants, and staff with the Dept. of Health and Dept. of Education. We ask a number of actions to be taken: 1. That the affected families are fully informed. Many of these children are now adults; they and their families must be contacted to be informed that their private information has been shared without their consent. 2.That autistic children have equitable access to appropriate education and that their right to privacy and dignity is given due respect. 3.That public trust is restored by the commissioning of a transparent, independent investigation.

  • Player Wills Community Campaign
For over a decade now the Player Wills’ site on the South Circular Road has laid vacant. The site has been passed into the hands of NAMA with Grant Thornton appointed as receivers. This site has the potential to have develop over 500 affordable homes with appropriate community facilities, in order to develop a sustainable community for decades to come. The Minister for Housing should intervene to stop this land being transferred to a private equity firm and develop the site as cost rental and affordable housing to ensure that the housing needs of our citizens is met.
