Greater Financial Support Needed For Adult Learners

AONTAS are calling on the Irish government to increase supplementary allowances by 50% for adult learners, benchmark social welfare payments, and streamline information on financial supports available to adult learners.

The ‘Holding You Back’ campaign aims to highlight the financial barriers holding adults back from education in Ireland today.

Research carried out by AONTAS has found that the high cost of education is preventing adults in Ireland from going back to or staying in education. Almost 1 in 3 adults surveyed by AONTAS have said they need more financial support.

AONTAS has heard from adult learners who have been forced to choose between heating their homes and funding their education, leaving their courses to pay for their rent and sleeping in vans due to not being able to afford accommodation.

Why is this important?

  • Be a part of creating real change for adult education in Ireland
  • Adult learning benefits not just individuals, but is an investment in Irish society as a whole
  • Show that you are invested in adult learners and their success
  • Your social media channels spotlighted – we will be resharing all content on this campaign
