Europe Must Choose: A Petition for Strategic Realignment
To the European Commission, the European Council, and all Member State Governments
For eighty years, Europe anchored its security, trade, and values to the United States of America. That relationship is over — not by our choosing, but by America's.
The United States has imposed punishing tariffs on European goods. It has dismissed NATO commitments. It has undermined the WTO, the UN, the Paris Agreement, and every multilateral institution that underpins civilised international relations. It has treated European nations as economic targets rather than allies. It has done so erratically, unpredictably, and without regard for decades of partnership.
Irrationality is not a basis for alliance.
China, by contrast — regardless of differences in political system — has proven itself a rational, consistent, and predictable actor in international diplomacy. It negotiates. It honours frameworks. It engages multilateral institutions. It does not sanction its trading partners on a whim.
We therefore call on European governments to:
Open formal negotiations toward a comprehensive EU-China Strategic Partnership
Redirect trade, investment, and technology cooperation toward China and willing middle powers
Build a new multilateral architecture independent of American institutional dominance
Develop full European defence autonomy
Treat the United States henceforth as a neutral third party — neither enemy nor privileged ally
Rationality must be rewarded. Irrationality must have consequences.
We are Europeans. We choose partnership with powers that respect us.
