  • Protect Ireland's Dogs: End Puppy Farming and Overbreeding Now
Dear Minister Heydon, I am writing to you not as a politician or professional campaigner, but as an ordinary Irish citizen who can no longer stay quiet about the suffering of dogs in our country. Across Ireland, dogs are being overbred, neglected, and discarded by puppy farmers and irresponsible breeders. These animals live in silence, often behind closed doors, hidden away from the public eye. They are bred repeatedly with no regard for their physical or emotional wellbeing. When they are no longer profitable, many are dumped or destroyed. Ireland has gained an international reputation as one of the worst countries in Europe for puppy farming. That is something no one should feel proud of. We need stronger protection for our animals and real enforcement of animal welfare laws. The current legislation does not go far enough. As Minister, you have the power to be a voice for the voiceless. I am asking you to take meaningful steps to stop the cycle of cruelty by: • Introducing a strict cap on the number of breeding bitches allowed in any licensed premises • Making welfare training mandatory for all breeders and dog owners • Enforcing regular and unannounced inspections of breeding facilities • Increasing fines and legal consequences for both physical and emotional abuse of animals These are not radical demands. They are the basics of decency and compassion. Dogs do not get to choose the lives they are born into. We must choose better for them. Please take action to protect Ireland’s most vulnerable animals. We are ready to stand behind you if you lead the way. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I hope you will be the Minister who made a real difference for those who cannot speak for themselves. Sincerely, Rochelle Ogden Kinsale Co. cork

  • Hands off Herzog Park
Petition to Dublin City Council to Retain the Existing Name of Herzog Park To: Dublin City Council Re: Proposed Renaming of Herzog Park We, the undersigned, being residents, stakeholders, and members of the local community, hereby submit this petition requesting that Dublin City Council retain the existing name of Herzog Park in its current and historic form. It is our considered position that: 1. Herzog Park holds established historical, cultural, and community significance, and its current name forms part of the identity and continuity of the surrounding area. 2. No sufficient or compelling justification has been presented to demonstrate that a renaming would serve the public interest, enhance community welfare, or contribute positively to civic life. 3. Any alteration of a long-standing public place-name should only occur following demonstrably broad public support, transparent consultation, and due regard for the views of local residents, not the antisemitism on display in relation to the cur ent renaming proposal. 4. The proposed renaming, if implemented without clear, majority-backed community consent, would amount to an unnecessary disruption of established local heritage and may set an unwarranted precedent regarding future place-name changes. Accordingly, we respectfully request that Dublin City Council: Reject any proposal to rename Herzog Park; Affirm the existing name as the official designation of the park; and Recognise and uphold the wishes of the local community, whose connection to the park is longstanding, meaningful, and worthy of protection. By signing below, we confirm our support for this request and ask that the Council take formal action to preserve the name Herzog Park in the interest of heritage, continuity, and community identity.

  • Allow Dogs on Public Transport in Ireland with Clear and Uniform Rules
We are asking the Irish Government, the Department of Transport, and Transport for Ireland (TFI) to introduce a national, standardised policy that allows dogs on all forms of public transport — including Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann, Luas, and Irish Rail. We want clear rules that ensure safety and respect for all passengers, such as mandatory leads, muzzles where required, and designated areas if necessary. We also ask the Joint Committee on Public Petitions and the Ombudsmen to consider this petition, gather evidence from transport operators, and recommend that the Dáil and Seanad update national policy accordingly. Our request is simple: make Ireland a modern, accessible, pet‑friendly country by allowing dogs on public transport under clear, uniform regulations.

  • Dublin Councils must choose dog pound services based on WELFARE & QUALITY, not cost or convenience
The 4 Dublin councils will soon be renewing their 2021 dog pound contracts. In the interest of the public good, we want them to commit to choose the tender which is of the highest quality and offers the best standards of animal welfare, and not to simply opt to award the contract based on which one is cheapest or most convenient. After the tenders have been awarded, we also want each council to commit to making all valid tenders received, publicly available in the interest of transparency and the public good.
