Following the 2 Nov 2025 East Cork MD meeting, the Irish Independent (7 Nov) reported that Midleton has seen “absolutely no progress in 30 years” on a public pool, with children still travelling to Fermoy, Youghal and Cobh for lessons.
Councillors unanimously agreed to "revisit the issue", but the Council has not committed to next steps. Officials stated that no proposal can proceed without a viable site, highlighted operating-cost concerns, and noted that the upcoming Joint City–County Sports Plan will assess needs but does not guarantee action for East Cork.
The article also cites our 1,700 signatures and the 22,000 residents still without public swimming provision.
