Pay Parity for Northside Homecare Healthcare Assistants

Strike Day #2 Northside Home Care Services
Dear Minister,

Healthcare assistants in Northside Home Care Services were recently excluded from a deal made in 2025 between the ICTU group of unions and representatives from the social and community work sector. An increase of 9.25% phased over two years was supposed but unfortunately the healthcare assistants in Northside Home Care Services were deemed "out of scope" last minute.

We are calling on you to give recognition to the invaluable and essential work that the healthcare assistants perform by intervening and providing the HCAs in NCHS pay parity with the other Section 39 workers' who received the 9.25% from the deal.

The equality act does not protect workers from discrimination when they're given different sets of wages for the same kind of work - but what else would a reasonable person call this if not discrimination?

Why is this important?

People should support the IWU Healthcare Assistants' strike in Ireland because these essential workers are fighting for fair pay, decent conditions, and recognition, highlighting systemic underfunding that impacts vulnerable patients; supporting them means ensuring quality care by retaining experienced staff and addressing issues like low pay, heavy workloads, and broken promises that lead to burnout and turnover, which ultimately benefits the entire community, especially the elderly and disabled who rely on their vital home support.
