Outlaw automatic renewal of subscriptions

Please outlaw the practice of automatic renewal of online subscriptions.

Why is this important?

Most of us have been caught out by the payment of subscriptions which were automatically renewed because we forgot to cancel them. Subscriptions should only be renewed if we specifically request that they be.

Some people are concerned that signing this petition will result in them having to renew subscriptions, e.g like Netflix, every month. I think it will be obvious to the Consumer unit of the European Commission which instances we are concerned about. The big issue is forgetting to cancel a short term subscription like Amazon Prime or Now TV and it being automatically renewed without us being informed.
