Implement the proposed Salmon Weir Bridge Bus Corridor
Galway is choking on traffic, and our buses are stuck in it too.
We're calling on Galway City Council to implement a bus-only corridor on the Salmon Weir Bridge, 7am–7pm, to give buses priority and get them moving.
We're calling on Galway City Council to implement a bus-only corridor on the Salmon Weir Bridge, 7am–7pm, to give buses priority and get them moving.
This short-term trial proposal has already been passed unanimously by the Council's Project Development SPC. Now we need public support to carry it through the full Council vote.
The Salmon Weir Bus Corridor would:
- Give buses priority and improve journey reliability in the city centre
- Act as a stepping stone to the BusConnects Galway Cross-City Link
- Synchronise with the Galway City Development Plan
- Deliver real results fast, without waiting years for big infrastructure projects

Why is this important?
- A bus carrying dozens of passengers is stuck behind cars carrying one, on one of the city's key river crossings.
- A 7am–7pm bus corridor would make public transport faster and more dependable than driving.
- It's a low-cost, reversible trial that benefits everyone; including those who can't or don't drive, who depend on accessible public transport.
- Councillors, business and community representatives have already backed it unanimously at SPC level. Public support now can push it through the CPG and full Council vote.
