Private 'for-profit' nursing homes must be brought into public ownership. Care of older people should never be about profit-making.
Why is this important?
We've had too many scandals that have shown just how problematic 'for profit' nursing home care in Ireland is. They are driven by profit with many now owned by huge companies.
Nurses and healthcare staff in private nursing homes are not well treated - no sick leave, overworked, part-time contracts, poor working conditions, reliance on agency/temporary.
