Why is this important?
Regular working people of Ireland are generally not allowed to drink alcohol during work hours, our government should not be allowed to either.
Alcohol is one of the most abused substances in the country, it leads to many deaths in Ireland each year and leaves users impaired after consumption. It should not be available to our elected representatives while they are on duty.
Recent report showing that the government are going to spend 400,000 euro to pick new wines for the bar. [1] While previous reports show that many TD's and Senators have failed to pay their bar tabs, up until 2018 those tabs were "Written off", but new rules have resulted in them having the monies taken from their salaries. [2]
It is time that our elected representatives close the Dáil bar and get back to work for those who elected them.
