Call for Additional Gardaí Resources in Coolock Garda Station for a safer community

This petition is to draw your attention to the pressing issue which is affecting the safety and security of our communities. We are concerned about the need for more community policing in our neighbourhood Belmayne, Balgriffin, Clongriffin, Donaghmede & Clarehall to improve the overall safety of our town.

It’s a matter of utmost importance that deeply affects the safety and well-being of our community. We are increasingly troubled by the surge in anti-social behaviour within our area, and we firmly believe that immediate action is imperative to tackle this pressing issue.

Why is this important?

In recent times, our neighbourhood have witnessed a distressing escalation in anti-social incidents, including thefts and disturbances. One particularly disturbing incident involved a young boy who was attacked brutally in a residential estate in Balgriffin. Reports of vehicle thefts and attempted break-ins have become all too common, leaving residents anxious about their safety and the security of their homes. Additionally, there have been numerous instances of anti-social behaviour near the train station in Clongriffin.

This alarming trend has left our community feeling vulnerable and deeply concerned. We were disheartened to learn that one of our community guards has been reassigned to another unit, and we also came to know that two Gardaí from the Coolock Garda station have resigned from their duties. This has further strained our already limited resources.

Furthermore, due to staffing shortages, there is a possibility that the community clinic's operating hours, currently held every Wednesday, may be reduced to only two days in a month. This potential reduction raises additional concerns for the well-being of our community.
Belmayne, Balgriffin, Clongriffin, Donaghmede & Clarehall are home to thousands and thousands of families, and we all rely on the presence of an adequate number of law enforcement officers to ensure our safety and that of our children. The current state of affairs has led to a significant decline in the quality of life for our residents, and we urgently seek your assistance in addressing these pressing concerns.

It is with utmost urgency that we request the government to take immediate action to augment the number of Gardaí stationed in Coolock to serve the residents of Belmayne, Balgriffin, Clongriffin, Donaghmede & Clarehall with the aim of meeting the national average. We firmly believe that an increase in police presence will play a pivotal role in enhancing community safety and alleviating the concerns of our residents. To achieve this, we implore you to allocate a substantial number of both new recruits and experienced Gardaí to our community.
We are well aware of the challenges faced by our police force and the various demands on their resources. Nonetheless, we firmly believe that ensuring the safety and security of our community should be an utmost priority. We call upon you to kindly allocate the necessary resources and support to our local police force, thereby addressing this issue in a comprehensive manner.
By working together, we can foster a safer and more secure future for all residents of Belmayne, Balgriffin, Clongriffin, Donaghmede & Clarehall. We sincerely appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and hope for your invaluable support in making our community a safer place for all.
