People Belong in Communities

Whether you were born here or moved here, all of us do whatever we can to keep our kids in school, to put food on the table, and to help our neighbours and friends.

Across Ireland, communities have created welcoming environments for people who have come here to build a new life for themselves or to seek safety. Schools, clubs, and community groups have been revitalised with new students and volunteers joining.

But a small group of extremists are trying to make people who come here from elsewhere feel unwelcome in our communities. People are being evicted and are facing deportation, and our politicians are failing them.

So together, we're going to show that people belong in their communities by starting local campaigns all across Ireland to support people who are being made to feel unwelcome. Can you start your own local campaign today and help us build a better, safer and more vibrant country for all?

  • Keep the Adebowale Family Safe
Lucy Adebowale and her 5 children , Star, Greatness, Value, Prosperity and Gold are facing deportation in the near future. Their case is currently being appealed on the grounds that their lives would be in danger if returned to Nigeria where their abusive father now lives. The 3 oldest boys attend St Mary's CBS, Portlaoise, where they have proven themselves to be hardworking students and gentlemen in behaviour. Showing true community spirit they have been involved in the Student Council and the School of Sanctuary Committee. This is a family that finally had some sense of peace and safety in our community only to find themselves under threat again. Lucy is doing everything in her power to protect her family, but she needs support. The Adebowale family are part of our CBS community, our CBS family, so let us give her that support.

  • Blackrock
Prevent forced relocation of Ukrainian families settled in Blackrock
The affected families have been integrated into many parts of our town in Blackrock so it would have an impact on many people in the community. It is within our interest to maintain them as a key part of this community going forward.

  • Galway
    Don't evict us Roderic O'Gorman
No matter who we are or where we come from, all any of us want is to protect and take care of our families. Being evicted from the only shelter we have is cruel and heartless.

  • Ireland must keep supporting Syrian refugees
After the fall of the Assad regime, Minister Helen McEntee announced that Ireland will pause making final decisions on asylum applications from Syrian people.  While the fall of the Assad regime has been welcomed as a victory for the people of Syria, it has also left a power vacuum in the country and many Syrians have good reason to seek safety abroad. It’s still unclear how Syria will be governed and by whom. In addition to this, the country is being heavily bombed by the Israeli army. Minister McEntee's decision to pause asylum applications will cause huge stress and uncertainty for Syrian people who have made Ireland their home. We are urging Minister McEntee to immediately reverse this decision and start processing Syrian people's asylum applications once more.
