A Choimisinéir,
We, the people of Roscommon and Galway are seeking an allocation of new Gardaí from the 167 Gardaí due to pass out from Templemore in early December.
In the Roscommon/Longford/Mayo Garda Division, burglaries are up 55% on this time last year. This is a stark and frightening statistic and it is causing widespread fear across communities. Burglaries have also risen in County Galway, especially in rural areas.
Garda numbers are down in our Counties and we want to see more Gardaí visible in our communities to deter crime and to allow us to feel safe in our homes.
Given Garda numbers are down, Garda stations have been closed and crime is up in our Counties, we are seeking new Gardaí from your next allocation.

Why is this important?
There has been a rise in burglaries in the last year. Burglaries have been more or less consistently happening since last November. Communities are afraid and this should not be the case for people in 2024. We need and deserve proper rural policing.
