Keep AI music out of Peace Proms
Pledge that the Peace Proms repertoire remains free of AI-composed music. AI technology causes huge ethical and environmental concerns and should not be promoted to young people in this way
Why is this important?
The Peace Proms is a school music programme with an annual concert. Children from all over the island of Ireland perform together and it is hugely enjoyable for the young participants. This year's repertoire features AI-composed music as part of the programme, as if it is being showcased.
As well as this, the development and largely undesired rollout of artificial intelligence technology carries huge ethical concerns. Environmental damage, use in surveillance and warfare, and threatening people's employment prospects to name but a few. By using AI-composed music, the leadership of the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland are validating the use of this technology and promoting it to young people.
