Celebrate Jennifer Johnston

Maquette of Rowan Gillespie sculpture of Jennifer Johnston bronze - final pic will be 6ft tall
We want them to authorise the erection by the sea of a statue to writer Jennifer Johnston by the sculptor Rowan Gillespie, a gift from her family  to the people of her home town. Jennifer died last February at the age of 95.
The council's policy , however, rejects memorialisation of anyone until 10 years after their death.

Why is this important?

Her family, authors of this petitition, and those who admired her tremendous body of work and passion for life would like to see her celebrated  as a woman writer, all  too neglected, and as one who embodied the vitality and enthusiasm of older people. She is an important part of the rich cultural heritage of the borough.
