Why is this important?
The former Convent of Mercy is a landmark building in Templemore dating back to 1872. It is now up for sale on the public market. If ownership of this building is let slip at this time future generations may well ask how did we let such a wonderful local building slip from community use. The sale presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to secure the building as a community asset to upgrade community facilities and services.
Wonderful services are currently provided by Templemore Community Services at their Bank Street Centre. Current access to or expansion of their services is not possible due to lack of space. The day care service is currently unable to offer new places to applicants with some clients restricted to one day per week and complementary therapies services also restricted. The take-out dinner service for older persons is operating at full capacity and is not meeting the growing demand. Expansion of the other services offered including Community Pre-School, Community Social Work/Family Support Service, Minority Groups Support Service would also be possible at such a great spacious location.
We dare to dream that new services will be offered also, particularly day respite facilities to meet the care requirements for persons living in the community diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or Dementia and a café drop-in facility for the whole community.
Let’s take this opportunity to support an inclusive approach to creating an inter-generational community hub to both serve and unite the whole community in Templemore, Clonmore, Killea, Borrisoleigh, Loughmore, Castleiney, Moyne, Templetuohy, Drom, Inch, Clonakenny and Courageneen.
