Stop Dun Laoghaire Harbour being privatised.
Put Dun Laoghaire Harbour into full public ownership.
Ensure no inappropriate development that will negatively impact on Dun Laoghaire Harbour as a public and watersports amenity and a unique piece of local and national heritage.
Ensure in the imminent transfer of ownership process from the Department of Transport to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council that the Minister takes financial responsibility for any current liabilities.
Why is this important?
Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and the Minister for Transport will shortly decide on the future running of the harbour by choosing one of the following options as set out in Harbours Act 2015.
The existing Harbour Company continues as commercial quango, only nominally under the control of the Council.
The Harbour Company is dissolved and the harbour is brought under the full democratic control of the Council and by extension of the public.
Dun Laoghaire harbour is currently under the control of the Harbour Company which plans to sell public waterfront land to developers for hotels and private apartments in order to finance a giant new cruise berth in the middle of the harbour, which will fundamentally damage the harbour as a unique public maritime and heritage amenity.
